For what you are doing, the Alpha is perfect. IWC makes enough direct mount stuff for it that you can still get pretty light and tight - depending on what you want.

Yeah I'm going with that. I like the squids too. What do you think about the lantac? Too much gray area?

I like the FSC556. Don't have any experience with the Lantac. Never even seen one in the wild....

Check out Wheaton Arms for their comps/brakes. I like mine. 5.56 doesn't have much recoil but my Wheaton comp keeps the barrel very level. Muzzle flip hardly exists and no pulling left or right. I think you would be very happy.

Do an SPR, that was my last build and it was great.  300 Blackout is great but the ammo is expensive and the 6.5 is great too but the ammo is even more expensive.  Even if you reload, good Grendel brass is about 90 cents per piece.  

 

I'm in the process of building a 14.7" mid length gas 100% Wilson Combat parts rifle.  So I'm excited to see how that turns out.  My SPR is an 18" WOA SPR .223 Wylde chambered rifle.  I love it.

I dunno, pick any of the major brands of 18" barrel and most will love them and some will hate them. I can tell you I have a 18" Nordic that made a trip back to the factory for an improperly cut throat, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't recommend it.   Nordic and Criterion are both under $300, JP's are under $500 but that includes a matched headspaced bolt if that is worth anything to you (it isn't to me).

Wilson combat is in sale in their website. Nice barrels around 300. Rainier arms about the same.

Got my upper and hand guard.

 

Got a NiB bcg, Griffin comp, and sights sorted out. Just need a barrel and I can start assembling this bad boy.
