RTSP Feedback & Suggestions

Recommended Posts

So after reading a lot of good reviews on RTSP I decided to go there today and check them out. The place is nice but their service wasn't good at all. As a first time gun buyer and in the market for an AR i had some questions for the person behind the counter and he looked like he didn't wanna be there so i didn't want to bother him anymore. I am also getting 3 PP hopefully by next week so i thought I'll check out the hand guns, there was a girl and a guy behind the counter that i asked some questions and they looked pissed because i interrupted their conversion. Now i support local businesses and will pay more $ for a good service but i will think twice before returning there.

It is very disheartening to read your post. We truly pride ourselves on having very good customer service oriented employees. With that, I apologize. I did speak to my managers this morning and showed them your post. I made it a point to have them speak with their respective staff members and refresh their brains about how important the customers are to our business.

Please stop in another time and ask for me, I would enjoy meeting you and even give you a run on the digital simulator on me.

Thanks.

Wait, my kid was playing with the fire starters this weekend and nobody helped him build a fire.  Cmon now Pete, any self respecting gun store owning pyro woulda shown the boy a thing or two.  As just compensation, you can put a free lifetime membership in my cubby hole behind the counter.  I'll be by to pick it up this week.

;)

Seriously, that's great customer service, just do be careful that no one takes advantage of your generosity.  We have mooches even here in the gun community.

I visited RTSP yesterday and had a very good time. Other than a minor confusion of needing to watch the safety video before getting on line, had no issues. I did all my paperwork before getting there so that was a breeze. Since I brought my own weapons, I just bought a couple of extra targets and the price was right. Once in the range, the range officers were very helpful as they got me a rest for my rifle and they had chairs.

I sighted in my new 10/22 at 25 yards but noticed the back sight was hitting the front of the scope. I took care of that when I got home. I shoot 100 rounds during my session. I also noticed how loud it can get, even with ear plugs on. I well be definitely be going back and will probably take my son too .

The 25 yard side is significantly louder than the 15 yard range. When I shoot handguns there I usually request the 15 yard ports. That side is baffled.

We allow up to .308 on the range for rifles and have no caliber restrictions on handguns. Slug only for shotguns. No armor piercing, tracer, or steel core ammunition allowed.

What's the policy regarding using steel cased rifle caliber ammo (223/762) like Wolf or TulAmmo? From my understanding, these have a bimetal jacket/lead core.

That ammo is fine as long as it is not steel core.

Thanks Pete, that's what I thought as well. Maybe a month ago I passed by the range with my brother and his father in law who was in from out of town so he can try out the AR and AK variant. It was a busy Saturday and with the video and paperwork he had to fill out + the lines it was about 45 minutes before we actually got up to the counter to get him setup with a pic, etc. Got everything done and the last thing the guy behind the counter said he had to do was check my ammo, no problem. I showed him the Wolf 223 and 7.62 steel cased ammo boxes and immediately said this could be a problem. He brought out the magnet, saw that it was sticking a little and told me I couldn't shoot that there. I tried explaining the composition of the round, bi-metal jacket, lead core not steel core, and that the magnet is also going to pick up the steel case and he still said we couldn't shoot it because it stuck to a magnet. We went back and forth a little and got nowhere. I turned to the rear counter and pointed out that you guys actually sell this ammo I am trying to shoot and he said something like we sell it but you still can't shoot it here.

I turned around and saw the huge line behind me, looked around for you and you were talking to a customer and had a few other customers around you. By that time I was so fed up that we just picked up and left. Took the drive to PA and shot there instead.

This is by all means not a complaint, just wanted to bring this to your attention so that the confusion can be rectified. Funny thing is I've shot Wolf steel cased ammo there plenty of times before without issue.

Just a little feedback to Pete and crew. I took my wife to the range on Wednesday. She's never been there nor has she ever fired a gun before. She had a great time and commented on how friendly the staff was. She liked it so much she's looking for a baby sitter to watch our boys at least twice a month just so she can go shooting with me. And now she's filling out the application to get her FID and P2P.

So kudos to RTSP!

I have been a member at RTSP since March and overall it has been a very positive experience.  With the exception of one incident with a RSO where he was barking at me instead of just nicely telling me about a rule I wasn't aware of (we worked it out before I left), everyone there has been exceptional.  From the front desk staff, to the RSOs (willing to spend time helping you sight in a rifle or give pointers), to the sales staff, willing to show you whatever you want to see and really knowing the firearms.  I don't really have any major complaints other than the fact that the membership is a little pricey (it is what it is).  I am not sure why adding on rifle is $75 more per year but it didn't keep me from joining.  It is a bit of a drive for me but with a flexible schedule, I love being able to go in the middle of the day when the place is nearly empty.  I avoid weekends if I can't get up to make it there before 10 for member's hours.  Great job by everyone involved with RTSP!
