Ronky 1 Posted November 14, 2014 Anyone on here have a spread of private land they'd allow like-minded individuals to shoot on? I'm wondering because I've got some steel I like to shoot and it's a pain driving it all the way out to PA. I'm located in Essex County. Back in college, we used to shoot on this old rancher's property ... We'd drop a case of beer off at his rear door, as a thank you. Just wondering if there's anyone like that in NJ. It'll probably be me and a buddy. We're pretty experienced ... More than happy to generate and sign a hold-harmless or other waiver if that would ease any concerns. Thanks! fishnut 2,358 Posted November 14, 2014 You can shoot on my unicorn ranch at targets made of rainbows LOL no really good luck finding a place that someone will let you shoot on in this god forsaken state. if someone of this forum had a place large enough and allowed other members to shoot on the property they probably would never leave. NJSigfan 218 Posted November 15, 2014 Out of curiosity, how big of piece on land is needed to shoot 9mm, shotgun, 22lr and maybe .223? I understand that a proper dirt mound backstop is ideal and should be constructed for safety.

I think a more critical thing would be having a space big enough to not have any neighbors, who would hear the shots and call 911!
dman2112 6 Posted November 15, 2014 There is no one like that anymore in NJ

Place is pretty far off the beaten path so noise is not a factor. Neighbors are pro2A and have already mentioned that it was ok. Only concern is distance incase of a miss on the berm

Pew Pew Plates 358 Posted November 17, 2014 I played around with a transit and came up with this for my range. Red line is the 100 yard range yellow line represents and overshoot and then shows how many feet I'de have the traverse off the berm to send a round into my neighbors pole barn. (90' traverse). Also shot elevations and the barn is actually higher than top of berm. Aside from that im clear for 2.59 miles straight back and I shoot everything.Dug the berm out with a backhoe into a slight hill, I have a plywood target holder and two AR500 swingers
Bonnevil79 0 Posted December 3, 2014 Actually, I have had the pleasure of being invited to a giant (~300 acres) plot of land with a lake in the middle of it way down in South Jersey that my friend invited us to do just that on. The actual property is a mostly undeveloped plot of about 1200 acres split amongst a few people. One of the owners and most of the neighbors are police that all know that is how the land was used so no one called on us throughout the weekend. We set up steel targets with natural berms (well sort of) on the other side of the lake at about 400 yards to test out a friends new AR. Plus set a "course" to go through with our pistols on that other side. I'll post a couple of pics of it when I figure out how to attach pics from my computer. If I get the invitation again there is usually an invite to bring an extra couple of people, so I can see what can be done between now and next summer / fall for our next adventure there. Edit - I think I have the picture now.

fishnut 2,358 Posted December 9, 2014 ^ Snowmen with tannerite in them is pretty fun too. I get to shoot at a farm just north of Easton and we make winter time run and gun courses with them. as well as shooting from a moving golf cart in the summer. Gota love free America! I wish I could shoot their more often though

I haven't been down there for it, but I know they had the lake stocked once and has been growing ever since. I wish I could remember what was in there, but I forget, I did get to see the family of eagles that lives there fishing successfully one day., which was pretty cool. Now you've got me looking up the tannerite targets for my next visit.

S&W 637 [] Sig 1911 .22lr [] Glock 22 Gen4 [] Mossberg 590 [] M&P 15 Sport Well when we have 6-7 guys out at the farm I shoot at we are on almost 50 acres that butts up to a 250 acre corn field owned ironically by dietz and Watson. Even still with all of us shooting we have had the local authorities come out twice already. Usually only when we are shooting the Tavor or the AR's though. I guess with it being open land he sound really travels and one officer told us had he could hear us at the station which is a few miles away. They only come out when they get calls but when they come they are cool about it because we aren't breaking any laws. It is odd sometimes with an AR on my shoulder and a handgun on my hip taking to cops. Few of them even mentioned how they'd like to shoot with us. Invitations were given! Once the spring time comes and we get back into the saddle with our weekly gun nights I'll see if we can set up a little something where members can come out. It really is a slice of heaven being in Nj and feeling so free!
