wink-_-wink 1 Posted November 15, 2014 Has anyone ever participated in one of these mass orders for commemorative pieces? When I was in Afghanistan, the army unit there with us did a Kimber order and it had their unit patch on it and some other engravings. I thought it was a really neat idea. I have started looking into this (very lightly still guaging interest) for my Air Guard unit. It would be cheaper but harder to do pistols because theres a minimum of 25 purchases and to get that many people to get P2P would be a pain, but the Rifles are only 15 minimum and i think I could swing that kind of interest. I am curious if anyones every done these or got one? PICS! Also, for you vendor people, what would shipping and NICS for something like this cost. I am not sure that this will ever take off but there are several gun guys I work with so it is something I want to at least entertain. For ours, it wouldn't be for our Afghanistan deployment but just our career field in general. In our field (across guard and active duty) there is a HUGE sense of pride for the field. If I couldn't get it for my unit, I know my active duty brothers would LOVE these. Anyway, comments, concerns, how much of an idiot am i?
JT Custom Guns 956 Posted November 15, 2014 I'm just guessing here, but I would assume the first thing would be to approach a MFG. or Dist. and ask them for the specific terms to produce (assuming they will even consider it) a limited number run of the model you want with the commemoration and get the following: Cost each per unit Time frame for delivery Required amount of deposit money required w/ order ect. Than you would need to contact NG members and get a Group Buy together and gather up Names, Address, Deposits, ect. to make your order limits. I'm not saying it can't be done, I'm sure at some level it can but here is an example: Henry Golden Boy rifle cost X to dealers Same rifle in a commemorative cost almost double, and they run hundreds, or thousands at a time so I'm thinking that most major mfgs. would charge you a fortune to do it in a limited production run, if at all........... Good Luck though, sound like a nice project............. JT
JT Custom Guns 956 Posted November 15, 2014 Another possibility might be to get a group buy on a number of guns and have then custom Cerakoted in a graphic that would be a commemorative. Possibly less expensive and faster turn around time if you find a Custom Finish / Graphics guy that would be willing to do the project.......... Sota 1,191 Posted November 15, 2014 or go on HKPRO and look at the group buys there. they've done it a couple times. one of the principals there might be willing to converse with you about the trials and tribulations.
