brucin 923 Posted November 30, 2014 Next week I have to make a trek out to Scranton. Can anyone give me a few tips for a few shops that are along the 80-380 route? I know about Dunkelberger's but would like to check out any other place that is no more than 10 miles off of either highway between the NJ state line and Scranton. I would really like to check out a shop that has a lot of pre-owned inventory. Any help would be appreciated.

magnawing 5 Posted November 30, 2014 Yep...78 west to the first exit in PA. When you're finished at Sarco, head west to Rt 33 and take that all the way to I-80. You'll find plenty of used long guns there. This signature is AWESOME!!!
svt3183 14 Posted November 30, 2014 I don't think Tanners is in the way, but if they are, they are awesome
mipafox 438 Posted November 30, 2014 Sarco is nowhere near Route 80 or Scranton. It's at Route 78 in Easton (as mentioned). It might not be that bad to take 78 to 33 N of a route depending on where in Morris County you are. But Sarco is not much of a destination.
T Bill 649 Posted November 30, 2014 On the way to Scranton there is not much to stop and look at. You can try Dunkies in the 'burgs, but other than that nothing within you parameters up the mountain, especially in used. Mount Pocono (on your way) or Blakeslee ( out of your way) are the only two areas were I knew there were brick and mortar "storefronts". Most "Pokies" trade by word of mouth, no real good "used" shop all the way to Scranton (Lackawanna County). Retail outlets include Gander Mountain in the mall north side of 81, near Lowes (Viewmont Dr Dickson City). Regular type "gun shops" include Advanced Arms S Main St Pittston, one of the better ones, then One Stop on Luzerne St in Scranton and Fire One on S Keyser in Taylor, and a couple of others. Advanced is probably the biggest, the others I haven't been to in years (have family in the Wyoming Valley). Most are small shops, hell overgrown garages for that matter as FFLs are easy in PA. My family still uses one where business in done over the the phone and pick up is at the dining room table over a cup of coffee, and the prices cannot be beat. I've bought some machineguns and silencers, usually at the same time. I figure If I am going to bother, might as well get a silencer or two. I bought once from a dealer. Over his kitchen table. I also bought from some dude. No FFL. Over his kitchen table. MG with silencer. He got a letter in the mail and I picked up the receiver and can. Newtonian 453 Posted December 1, 2014 On the way to Scranton there is not much to stop and look at. There is a pretty nice shop in or just outside of Scranton that's not bad at all. I forget the name. It's in the big shopping center on the right as you drive north on 81. When picking my daughter up from Binghamton U. I used to allow an extra hour-plus to visit. I didn't spend all that time inside. It would take me 10-15 minutes to find the place and the same to find my way out of the parking lot. My sense of direction isn't the best. I'm sure it's less than 4-5 minutes off the highway.
brucin 923 Posted December 4, 2014 Thanks for the tips. I live 1/2 a mile from 80 so anything of of 78 will have to wait for a separate trip. Maybe I'll combine a trip to Weyerbacher with a visit to Sarco even if it's "not much of a destination" as one poster said. I will try to find the mystery shop in the shopping centre off 81 north. 302w 83 Posted December 4, 2014 Sarco is a cool place if you like old crap. Their store is a large building full of old crap. They also have good deals at gunshows too. Whats in Mt Pocono? The four PA gunstores I have been to are Dunks, Army/Navy in Whitehall, Sarco, and two different Walmarts. Edit: Is it the Route 940 gunshop? I love their new deal: ***DEAL OF THE DAY*** ***Anti-Looter Edition***Romanian WASR AK-47 7.62 x 39. Sale Price $550 Included: Two magazines Cleaning kit strap 500 rounds of ammunition Instructional DVD

There are zillions in the Lehigh Valley, especially ones that can beat internet costs and availability on reloading products. Just if you do a web search, make sure you are not mapping kitchen table shops by accident. There are zillions of them, too, and great places, but not destinations for casual visits from NJ. I don't get the appeal of the Sarco shop in Easton. Large building full of old crap? They have like four rows of guns and accessories, a few garbage cans of beater guns, and more overpriced stuff on the walls. Any time I have ever wanted something there they told me they didn't have it and would have it sent from Jersey. It's a tiny, overpriced junk shop with zero deals. Don't go there. Find something you are willing to buy on their website and ask them when they can get it to the shop. They are not bad people at all. Obviously they had a great history back in the day. I just don;t see why people here think there shop is something cool. Nice people, but the shop is a big disappointment IMO.

Sarco has some insane deals if you take the time to dig.
fishnut 2,358 Posted December 6, 2014 And which ones would those be??? This signature is AWESOME!!! X2. I am in the area a bit but I don't really know any other gun shops to window shop. I would like to visit some more shops as I have 3 new permits in the works
302w 83 Posted December 7, 2014 What stores in the Lehigh Valley? I go to Bethlehem from time to time. Sarco always has some obscure junk I need and I like looking. I've bought a good amount of A1 parts, a little bit of M1 stuff, and CLP.
mipafox 438 Posted December 8, 2014 I don't really reload but my buddies like TNT Reloading (?) and C&D Coin and Gun Shop. ASS closed and he didn't like people from Jersey, anyway. He had great carry gear at very fair prices but some stuff was overpriced.

brucin 923 Posted December 9, 2014 Well the trip was fun but not as fruitful as I hoped. The Gander Mtn in Scranton is small compared to the other 2 I've been in. On the return trip I stopped at Heberling's Sports Shop, 60 River Rd, Prompton, PA 18456. An old school shop sort of like an antique store for firearms. Dusty and cluttered but had great prices on some used stuff just not what I was looking for. Northeast Firearms in Honesdale offered to order what I was looking for and gave a pretty fair price but I declined due to the long trip back to pick it up. Hemlock Gun Shop in Lakeville is closed on Mondays. Bummer. Dunks didn't have what I was looking for either. The day was not a total loss though. I picked up my PA non-resident license to carry. 302w 83 Posted December 9, 2014 How did you get a non resident LTCF? You need one from your home state.
mipafox 438 Posted December 9, 2014 How did you get a non resident LTCF? You need one from your home state. Considering this place is mostly cops now that everybody else left the state, I would venture that guess first and see
brucin 923 Posted December 9, 2014 How did you get a non resident LTCF? You need one from your home state. I have a NY permit and state ID card. NY considers me a resident even if I don't live there full time.

sof 0 Posted December 12, 2014 TNT hours: Sat morning 9:00AM to 12 (not sure about closing time), but only when he's not at a show Monday: 7PM-9PM Tues and Wed: 6PM-9PM Pretty much only for reloaders, but the entertainment value is amazing if you get there when he's going on about his wife. T Bill 649 Posted December 12, 2014 www.tntreloading.com on the web page just below the banner will tell you what he is up to each weekend. Sometimes not updated till Tuesday or Wednesday. He will stay till 4PM on Saturday if people keep coming in. If you are traveling any distance be sure to have a substitution list, there is no way of knowing what he has given the current marketplace. Calling is mostly miss than hit, sucks, but that's the way it is.
