300 black out

Recommended Posts

Thinking of building a 300 black out AR and want to know if there is anything out of the ordinary that I need to know about reloading this caliber. I am comfortable reloading 223/556. Any tips or advice would be appreciated. What powders do you use? What dies seem to work well?

Thanks in advance.

I don't mean to sidetrack the thread, but can I ask why the round has appeal to you when you live in a non-NFA state? If you had a suppressed SBR in it, I would be first in line to ask to shoot it. Is it just to have a 30 caliber intermediate round in your AR? I am not trying to be sarcastic or snarky. When i lived in Jersey I had looked into 300 Blackout, but discarded it because it does 't do anything an AK or Marlin Lever in 30-30 can't do much cheaper. Unfortunately, now that I live in a free state, i am too broke for NFA fun stuff. Figures.

H110 has a lot of support for 300 and so does Lil Gun. Are you putting a can on it? If so consider an adjustable gas block and JP one piece spring and buffer.

Missouri bullets makes a 245 grain lead that is nice subsonic.

The 300 blackout ar is more adaptable in terms of ammo and accesories than the ak or lever action. An ar with the ak round usually has problems, so even in our communist state of nj the ar blackout can be rationalized if one tries hard enough, which comes from rationalizing dozens of previous questionable gun purchases. I recently purchased an advanced armament single shot in 300, just because.

Those that think the 300BLK is only a suppressed weapon platform have not spent anytime with it.  If you reload, it is the 30-06 of the AR world. So adaptable, from 110 grain to 225 grain heads, subsonic to sonic, re-using old split/crushed neck 223/556 brass it has been a joy to shoot.  Considering a bolt action now to complete the collection.

It is very true that I have never tried it. Now that you showed all those bullet weights, I do like the versatility of it. It reminds me of 10mm (135 grain to 230grain). Up here in New Hampshire, all the folks I know of that have rifles in 300 Blackout (i.e. 2 guys at my range), only shoot it suppressed.

I thought one of the advantages of the caliber was that you didn't need an adjustable gas block when running a supressor. Is this not true?

Thanks

I have loaded Sierra 175MK over A1680 and they rock.  I know what you listed may not be Sierra, but I would go with it.  With reusing brass that would put you at .36/round plus or minus, good deal in my opinion.

Hi-Tech Ammo has new m80s 19/100 or 90/500.

I don't believe you do but it adds flexibility in loading options to adjust it.  I also found that springs and buffers were a bit too much for it to cycle so I used the JP one piece.
