mikka1 2 Posted December 4, 2014 Just a quick simple question - I regularly run into stores (predominantly online) selling a variety of traded-in police handguns (mostly Glock 22 Gen 3, sometimes Gen 4, SIG P229 etc.), but all that I've seen so far were out-of-state. Are there any NJ-based stores that more or less regularly sell police trade-ins? I guess NJSP and PDs in municipalities are no different from the ones across the country and replace their guns time after time - so the question is where those guns eventually end up (and if they end up in any NJ stores where one can look at them and buy...) Thanks!
Mr.Stu 1,882 Posted December 4, 2014 I heard from a state trooper that NJ would rather spend money destroying firearms no longer needed by the police than benefit from the trade-in value. Hardly a surprise for this state, is it? Sent from my SCH-I800 using Tapatalk

scorched 0 Posted December 4, 2014 My department will be getting new glocks sometime in '15, and we get the option to buy our duty weapons. If not, Lawmen sells them.
JayWilling 33 Posted December 4, 2014 I went to the old Egg Harbor Twp Lawmen's and found my little stainless S&W Model 60 there...it had been a police training piece. I took it home, polished it up, knocked out some chamber blocking roll springs, and have a beautiful piece out of it. They used to sell trade ins from local departments. I also recall being at Hauge's in Thorofare when they had trade ins from re-equipping local departments. I didn't buy anything though.
mikka1 2 Posted December 4, 2014 Thanks, I also heard at some point that NJSP was actually destroying firearms, but was quite surprised to read/hear that as I've seen the condition of decommissioned vehicles they sell out from municipal auctions - they pretty much sell *everything*, even if it is just a rusted frame with no transmission and cracked engine. That said I was under the impression that they are very scrutinized on what they are doing with their assets after they stop using them, so the natural idea I had was that they sell guns as well... I seriously don't know how to comment
kirk2022 43 Posted December 4, 2014 Yep, NJSP are switching from P228 to P229. All the 228s are set to be destroyed. Just think of the money gone!

They don't even trust their own members. $100 buys your duty gun.....after the frame is sawed into three.
