AR ambidextrous safety

Recommended Posts

Hear that? That's the sound of the swat team assembling on your lawn.

IANAL, but does it do the bad thing in that position? If it is still only semi-auto function (and the part was not market as part of a full auto kit), I'd assume you are fine.

ETA:

This seems like they figured it out:

Post 13 is interesting.

As a southpaw, I have installed the DPMS ambi safety http://www.midwayusa.com/product/217314/ and the Norgon ambi mag release http://www.midwayusa.com/product/918403/ on all my AR platforms, including the AR pistols.  The selector NEVER goes to the third position.

And thank you, Gene Stoner, for putting the bolt release on the proper side of the gun!

I note for the discussion that there is a vendor selling a drop-in bump-fire (excuse me, "positive reset") trigger with accompanying "evil 3rd position" safety that claims ATF approval:

I took a carbine 3 class at GFH a few months back in PA and one of the instructors lent me his carbine with a tac con trigger for the final exercise. I suck at bump firing but it was very easy to fire 2-3 rounds at a time in a controlled manner. It was pretty cool, the only downside is that I had to transition to pistol before anyone else. :)

dumb question......that 3rd position isn't illegal or considered an evil feature in any way, is it?

No, Tac Con even includes a letter from the ATF declaring it to be legal. It just creates an incredibly light trigger pull and extremely short trigger reset. Its very controllable and a lot of fun though I would probably recommend against installing it on your defensive carbine that you keep next to your bed at night because it has such a light trigger pull.
