Long term food storage materials - group buy?

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I'm getting into long term food storage and so far I've purchased some food-grade 5 gallon buckets.

Next on my list are the mylar bags and O2 absorbers.

I'm planning on buying from Sorbent Systems.  Some of the mylar bags require a minimum purchase of 50 bags, but I won't need that many.

Is anyone interested in a group buy of mylar bags/O2 absorbers?

I'd be more interested int he food grade buckets. They are a much bigger PITA to acquire at a reasonable price. Bags depends on price and distribution. There's really no advantage to haivng ot drive 50 miles to pick them up.

I bought some from the Lowes in Riverdale/Butler in Early November. There was a stack of about 20 or so there.

Yeah they had the white food safe ones in the paint section. They either aren't getting more, someone snags them before me, or they moved them on me. What section did you find them in?

Right next to the "paint swatch" section in my Lowes.  It shows 39 in stock at the East Brunswick store.

IF you really want food grade buckets for some reason, you can get free ones at your grocery store. I prefer non-food grade because utility buckets have thicker plastic. But I picked got food grade from the grocery store because there were smaller items that I wasn't as concerned about and wanted to seal up in smaller buckets without the expense of mylar bags. I'm still not sure if that provides any advantage (beyond cost) but I did some that way anyway.
