boo 6 Posted December 14, 2014 Round count on my VP9 is about 700 rounds. I previously haven't had any issues but yesterday I had two failures to go into battery. There were a couple firsts that I'm thinking might have introduced the problem: 1. First time using Freedom Munitions 115gr reloads. Large majority of previous round count has been PMC 115gr and a smattering of other 115gr/124gr factory ammo, including some 115gr/124gr Freedom "new" ammo. 2. Gun had just been cleaned a few days earlier, and it was my first time using liquid froglube. I usually use froglube paste, but I've been reading a lot lately about people blaming the paste for gumming up firing pin channels, so I figured I'd give the liquid a go. I've also noticed that if you hold the slide and ride it forward slowly, it will often not going into battery (not that there's reason you'd be doing this in actual practice) Just curious if anyone has had this experience? Maybe my gun just doesn't like FM reloads?

T Bill 649 Posted December 14, 2014 I cannot answer for the FTFs, however as a word of advise, if you are going to shoot commercial reloads, I would invest in chamber gauge. This can be used as a diagnostic tool to check the ammunition for SAAMI spec tolerances. I know all ammo from a commercial reloader should be within specs but sometimes it just falls between the cracks. If a load fails to chamber take the round and drop it in the gauge to see if it is within specs. Now you can move on to look for other possible problems, within the firearm, magazine, etc. I reload and have seen brass that looks perfectly OK, only to not drop into a gauge with ease. Given the fact FM buys back brass from customers who collect it from who knows where, that is an issue for me. I often read on boards about firearms with FTF all of a sudden and multiple time within the same box of ammo. For me alarm bells go off and the first thing I would check is the ammo. I have gauges for all my reloads and check each one, still have the occasional "tuff nut" that fails the test.http://www.midwayusa.com/product/595577/lyman-max-cartridge-gage-9mm-luger
Polak 3 Posted December 14, 2014 Likely ammo issue
PD2K 115 Posted December 15, 2014 Probably due to the weak velocity reman ammo. Try factory new "hotter" ammo.
