Beretta 390 thoughts.

Great gun. Like almost all Beretta shotguns, it is very ergonomic and quick handling. It has a very reliable gas system and is favored by a lot of clay shooting enthusiasts who don't care for or can't afford over/unders. I have handled Remington 11-87's but never shot them. The 11-87 is basically a product-improved Model 1100, which is the best selling autoloader ever. It shouldered well, but that is not a surprise since Remington shotguns seem to fit me well. Their reputation (especially in the current environment of shit quality control at Big Green) falls short of the Beretta. The level of refinement between the two is pretty evident. If you ware looking for a field gun that you won't feel bad about dropping in muck, the 11-87 might be an OK choice. I would personally still take the Beretta.

Nice gun but for the money I would go a little more for the Browning Maxus. You won't be sorry with that choice. I own one if you want to shoot it, say the word. If your heart is set on a Beretta auto loader I would take it a step up to the A400 xtream with out the KO (kick off). I hated that moving stock. Just my personal opinion, I have shot all three and I also own an 1100, and an 1187 super mag. Hands down the Browning is my favorite, but the A400 is equally as light and almost as smooth as the Maxus. I actually thought the 390 was obsolete now since the 391 was released? Are you looking at a used 390?

I won't disagree with DeerSlayer about the Browning, but Berettas and Brownings generally have different handling characteristics in their over-unders, but i am not as sure about semi-autos. If you are interested in the Beretta you should also try the Browning. Lou's in Raritan has a lot of nice shotguns. I would bet they have both. Give them a call. Nice folks.

Ok. Bumping this back up. Picked up a 390 a couple weeks ago. Its the Silver Mallard model in 12 with wood furniture. A little digging revealed that it was made in 1995. Thus being my first semi I had no real expectations. I have shot many 11-87s. This feels IMHO a little softer shooting than them. I dont have an older 11-87 model to compare to for fit and finish. The 390 is in great shape for an almost 20 year old gun. Internals looked good just a little dirty. That cleaned up easy enough. I have also found a site that deals with these guns almost exclusively. It will be used for busting clays and maybe, just maybe some field birds. I am still in the market for another semi as I have the bug right now. Thinking maybe a 930 or 11-87 in 12 or 20. Havent decided just yet. But I know the 390 will serve me well.

Cool, good luck with it. Perfect gun for casual clay shooting.

If you got the clay shotgun bug you're doomed. I started semi auto used. Then for no other reason besides my compulsion I got a beretta over under. I guess it's like guys that are into timepieces. Does the next one tell time any better? No, but you keep on buying more expensive ones.

I did a clay shoot some years ago at redwing, got paired up with two guys from pa shooting custom over under beretta's the work done on both sotguns was amazing all the way to curved stocks for cheek relief, custom choke tubes and so on..

It felt very good to out shoot them with my 1100.  they had trouble with rabbit and passing birds..  i did get them to hit the passing birds they were not leading far enough..
