Melgamatic 66 Posted December 15, 2014 Former Sergeant got things done in 30-35 days. New Sergeant (Sgt. Nassaur) is not doing as well. Took 21 days to get ref letters out. I'm now on day 45 and about to start nagging him. Are there any other Fanwood residents on the forum with recent permitting experiences? Timeline: T-0 - online background check submitted T - permit forms submitted to PD T+21 - reference 1 received T+22 - reference 1 returned T+25 - reference 2 returned T+45 - today... -Dave
Lecky 1 Posted December 16, 2014 Dave, sorry to hear that. I was always under the impression that fanwwod was really fast. I'm in scotch plains and the first 2 times I applied it was around 2 1/2 -3 Months then the last time was about 1.5 months. I can't see why a phone call wouldn't hurt. Melgamatic 66 Posted December 31, 2014 Just got back from 8 day vacation, was hoping that the Fanwood PD might have called, but no such luck. Today is T+60, a new all-time record for Fanwood.
Melgamatic 66 Posted January 1, 2015 Did you call? Yes, many times. The Fanwood PD is effectively empty most of the time. I've left Sgt Nassaur 4 or 5 voicemails, none of which he has ever returned. I've asked the secretary to tell me when he was on duty, but still have had trouble reaching him. Sgt Jedic was easy to contact, and even gave me his cell phone number to use when he was on duty. Melgamatic 66 Posted January 7, 2015 So on day T+64 I was walking in my house from work around 7pm and my wife told me that Sgt Nassaur was on the phone. He was apologetic and told me my permits had been done for quite a while. I got back in my car and drove right over to the PD (about 1/2 block away, we share backyards). Met Sgt Nassaur. He told me he had finished quite a long time ago, put a note on them for someone else to give me a call, and it never happened. He just found them and was surprised. He told me not to worry about the $6 for the permits. They were signed on 11/28/14, which puts the completion date at T+28, which is darn good. Of course now I'll probably only be able to use two of them, but he will happily renew the third (assuming I can get ahold of him). Like me, he is not good with voicemail. He gave me the names of two other FPD officers to also contact when dealing with firearms issues. So, it's mostly a good story. Super fast approval (as before), but terrible communications. Sgt Nassaur was friendly and helpful, just no good at returning calls. I'd prefer that over a town that works against me.
