Pistol Permit Info Wrong?

Recommended Posts

One of my permits has the caliber as 9x18 instead of 9x19.

The PD typed the info in for the permits so they would be ready to go, I have my exemption which shows the correct caliber (9x19) which is correct and approved.

So can I correct the 8 to a 9 on the pistol permit? or do I need a new permit issued since the PD made a slight mistake? I'm thinking I can cross out 9x18 and correct it with 9x19.

remember not the exemption form just the P2P has the wrong caliber.

Who filled out the permit? Only the seller is supposed to.

The PD filled out the permit, well the top portion with my name/dob/etc. and the model/make, caliber.

That was already typed in to match the approved exemption form.

The permit reads: Smith and Wesson Model 59 semi-automatic Caliber 9x18

The exemption is correct and reads: Smith and Wesson Model 59 semi-automatic Caliber 9x19

Just change the permit to match the exemption form and initial next to where

you made the change - no problem!

Happy Holidays!

JT

Thanks! That's a huge relief :D

I would rather not apply for more right now since I have 6 permits pre-typed for the exemption and 3 blank ones if a few pistols turn up that I would want to purchase so did not want to use the blank ones up.

Thanks JT and the same to you! :)

While I could appreciate the typing contribution of my PD filling out my permits for me, PK90 is right; only the seller is supposed to fill that in. I could thus interpret it as my PD limiting my use of the permits. What if I changed my mind and decided not to buy one or more of the handguns on the exemption? The exemption is just that; it's not a promise or commitment to execute any or all of the transactions.

Having said that, if you're good to go with it all then JT is right; make the change and initial it. That is done all the time. Mistakes are made.

That is correct only in the instance of a normal HG permit(s).

When a multi-gun exemption is requested to purchase more than one HG at a time, the form requires the

Make, Model, s/n & cal of each HG listed on the form, and then the permits are made out by the PD for those

HG's only.........

This is not required by statute or regulations, and the NJSP have never done this for any exemptions I've gotten. The vendor filled in all the permits for the exempted handguns as usual. After the NICS check was complete, of course.

And, in fact, the permits and exemptions were delivered separately.

Time to move to free America.

Working on it :)

I intended to purchase the pistols I listed on the exemption from day one so it doesn't bother me.

I agree with you, the PD likely did that to limit the use of the permits.

I'm not sure where you get your information from but the NJSP Multi HG Exemption form clearly requires

the Make Model, s/n & cal. of each HG being requested:

I have NEVER had an exemption come in w/o the permits being pre-filled out - ever............

This is exactly what I thought, for exemptions the permits are pre-filled to match the form

Guys, let's not confuse what I said. I said the handgun purchase permits were never filled out in advance. The handgun exemption application is always completely filled out when it's filed (both forms), and in advance of any purchase whatsoever.

And I didn't 'get my information' somewhere. I am recounting my direct experience with the NJSP Firearms Unit, and Sussex Station.

If JT's PD (or barracks?) does it differently, so be it. But it's not required by statute or regulation.

Again I agree with you that filling out the permits in advance and before handing them off to the applicant helps limit use. Most receiving approved exemptions probably wouldn't complain as long as they receive the permits and exemption to avoid OGAM.

I have never seen a permit that had the gun info filled in by the issuing authority, and I've done quite a few exemptions.....................maybe it's a South Jersey thing??????
