GRIZ 3,369 Posted December 18, 2014 Thats fine. I use them and a lot of 147s because they're cheap.
Blackjack988 8 Posted December 20, 2014 What is the twist rate of your barrel? 168's will be fine for 300 yards. 175's are better if you want to reach out further.
Blake 50 Posted December 20, 2014 When I spoke with a class instructor on 168 vs 175 he said the performance was basically the same out to 700yds. After 700yds the 175 outperforms the 168 every time. I dont have access to anything that far so I shoot the 168gr.
Golf battery 1,223 Posted December 20, 2014 Im using the 168 gr a eagle for m1a at the frozen nuts match at sjsc. But ive always questioned the best for this rifle. Of course the rifle is more accurate than i am. I gotta miss this sundays match due to my business but am doing idpa at somerset instead.

T1Defense 17 Posted December 20, 2014 If you're in search for the full potential of your rifle, I suggest handloading your own ammo. Even federal ggm in 168 and 175 has variances in powder charge.
Golf battery 1,223 Posted December 20, 2014 Thats what im in the process of right now. Learning to handload.

T1Defense 17 Posted December 22, 2014 Nice. It'll definitely tighten things up.
Parker 213 Posted December 22, 2014 You do need to handload to get the most out of a rifle for "fine tuning." Try the Speer 125 gr. TNT-HP bullet someday. A mild load but very accurate, good out to 300 yds. and under. I was skeptical but some scribes on the M14forum made mention of it for the M1A, so I tried it. GRIZ 3,369 Posted December 22, 2014 Handloading offers a plethora of options. You may find many loads that dont make sense extremely accurate. There was a guy on the the CMP forum who used a 110 gr spire point load for matches. IIRC this guy had a Distinguished Rifleman's badge so he's demonstrated his expertise. Golf battery 1,223 Posted December 22, 2014 Wow such light loads. I wouldnt have thought it could work. All i know factory 149 gr blows.
