checko 180 Posted December 18, 2014 I just mmoved into a new living situation and my security concerns have gone up a few tics. I now live in a house with 2 small children. I have a main safe and a quick access handgun safe but I'm looking for a way to secure an ar15 in the main bedroom closet with the same quick access in mind as the pistol safe. I want to keep the gun loaded and ready to roll but with as much safety as possible. I came across this on amazon but I have no experience with anything like it. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000T2A6BW/ref=pd_aw_sbs_4?pi=SY115&simLd=1 Any suggestions or feedback on units like this? Obviously safety is top priority but I don't have an unlimited budget either.

Krdshrk 3,877 Posted December 18, 2014 From a review it says it won't fit an AR with an optic and a 30 round mag...
checko 180 Posted December 18, 2014 From a review it says it won't fit an AR with an optic and a 30 round mag... I can keep it in there with a modified mag like a cut down 30 to a true

kc17 622 Posted December 18, 2014 I have the shotgun version of the shotlock. Good quality, fast access, lag bolted into studs very secure. Tossed an old robe over it, nobody knows it's even there. Also have the smaller hand gun version.
Barms 98 Posted December 19, 2014 Wasn't sure if you meant low profile as in "slim" or low profile incognito. That one is hardly incognito. If I was a kid id be hankering to fondle that thing all day long. Wouldn't get me anywhere but kids like to try.

If I was a kid id be hankering to fondle that thing all day long. Wouldn't get me anywhere but kids like to try. Doesn't have to be incognito. Going in an inconspicuous place and kids are already being prepped for firearms safety. I'm more concerned about child inaccessibility and quick access if I need it. I wanted something to take up as little room as possible

checko 180 Posted January 19, 2015 So I got the shotlock. Overall I like it and it fits my needs. Couple things I wasn't totally impressed with: The mechanical lock needs a fair bit of pressure before it will totally lock up. I'd like it to be a little smoother. The way my AR is set up, it wouldn't fit. The exps optic I had was too far forward. The vault is adjustable but it wasnt enough. I had to move my optic back on the rail to accommodate the vault. I *THINK* I can bubba it so it will fit the way I like it but its something you should look at before purchasing.
