vortex viper pst 1x4 scope

Recommended Posts

Hello all hope this finds everyone well at this time of year... anyone have one of these? Pros/Cons helpful insite? Wife looking to get me this for christmas. It would be going on my Blackout build. I have a couple of their SPARCs and ive been very happy with them.... this will be my first venture in glass for an ar platform rifle. I use mostly irons and the red dots. I like the 1x4 because i get the red dot for close up work and some magnification for reaching out a bit... also looking to mount it with the ADM scout or a Brobro QD any input on them? Anyhow thanks and everyone have a Merry Christmas.........

I have 2 of them with the MRAD reticle and I think for the price they are excellent.  The glass is clear enough that you can shoot both eyes open at 1x and the 4x can get you out to 300yds (longest I have access to).  The scope itself is built well and like all Vortex stuff it comes with a lifetime transferable warranty.  I have mine mounted in ADM recon x mounts.  ADM mounts are built well and you can find them on the secondary market for around ~$130.

The only thing I will say is definitely look through one before you buy to make sure you like the reticle.  I like it personally but a few of my friends have mentioned they don't like how thick it is.

If you do buy one check Primary Arms for their sales.  I got them new in box for $400 shipped.

at one time, had 4 on rifles and think they are the cats' meow.  The reticle is busy but it works and works well once you know how to use it.  Glass is awesome for the price, well made, lifetime warranty, what else could you ask for

I bought my first one after shooting yours :)

Turned me on to Vortex and now I have a bunch of their scopes.

OT but just a bit...any of the Vortex guys here know anything about the $400 ballpark 1-6x Vortex is supposedly rolling out soon?..was thinking about waiting for it..looks to be a good fit for my SPR build..

Vortex folks have confirmed such a thing will be revealed at Shot Show. I'm am both excited and apprehensive. I'm not really sure what the quality on it will be like because for it to be cheaper then the 1-4 PST they'll have to cut a number of corners.  If I had to guess I'd say they'll sell a ton of them, and I may end up owning one if I build a .22 upper for my race gun so it kinda matches the 1-6x HD II on that race upper.

I would however be suspicious of it until I see one in person.

Go for it, they are good scopes in that prince range. Don't expect it to as clear as $1000+ scopes but it is a very nice scope for the money.

totally disagree, no difference between my pst and my nightforce....zero

you cannot beat these scopes for the price, cannot

Err ... ok. There sure is a lot of difference between a PST and a my Razor II, but maybe your nighforce sucks :)

Agree, have both and the glass on the Razor 2 is much better but at more than twice the street price of a PST.  PST is very hard if not impossible to beat at $400 on sale NEW.  I paid ~1k for each of my Razor 2's used.  I will gladly keep paying that though bc they are great scopes and the build/glass/warranty is worth the money all day long.

I will also say that after getting behind a few NF scopes I'm not a fan of them.  It seems their super high end stuff is great (BEAST, ATACR) but their mid line glass leaves alot to be desired.
