MikeL 3 Posted January 15, 2015 The optic is a little too far backI did notice that after these pics. Is there a standard position it should be or do I have to find my preference?
Tack Tickle 0 Posted January 15, 2015 A lot of it is preference, however you most likely are going to be above the mag right before the rail meets the upper receiver. n4p226r 105 Posted January 15, 2015 Maybe I deserve the box of shame but I've never staked a castle nut nor had one come loose on me. That's because you aren't operating like an operator .
n4p226r 105 Posted January 15, 2015 Will hopefully have completion pics by tonight. Rest of the parts are in! Oh and I have to decide on the blue Loctite or staking. Staking requires a $10 tool from Home Depot and 5 minutes of your time. It's really a no brainer
redtornado23 0 Posted January 15, 2015 nice pic and awesome build, looks a lot like mine. great work

I ended up tightening by feel & staking. I also put that picatinny rail attachment up front (offset) b/c, from when I handled it, that feels like the perfect place I want to index my support hand. fatty 241 Posted January 15, 2015 What tool are you referring to? Very nice build btw
MikeL 3 Posted January 15, 2015 What tool are you referring to? Very nice build btw I was referring to the spring-loaded center punch. This one from Amazon worked perfectly.
fatty 241 Posted January 15, 2015 Oh that looks pretty awesome lol. never knew that type of tool existed so you basically jab that springloaded center punch to the corner of the castle nut and it's strong enough to stake it? I've never staked the castle nut as... surprisingly it hasn't come loose even after hundreds of rounds
Tack Tickle 0 Posted January 15, 2015 Its going to take a few jabs to get the metal to move, but it will work. n4p226r 105 Posted January 15, 2015 Make sure you put it on the tightest setting if it is adjustable. And hit it near the middle so you get a good amount of metal to move over.

MikeL 3 Posted January 17, 2015 Thanks. Shoots great as well! The ACT trigger is great. Love how everything turned out. I "think" I was able to zero the Bushnell red dot as best I can. Went for a 50 yard zero at GFH this morning sitting with a bench rest. I'll go back when the ammo I ordered comes in.
Tack Tickle 0 Posted January 17, 2015 Good placement on the optic. 50 yards is a good zero. Your impact points will be within an inch to inch and 1/2 at 50 yards and 200 yards with a 55 grain bullet. Here is a good article showing the charts with a 50 yard zero... http://www.thebangswitch.com/the-50-yard-zero-for-5-56mm/
