nitrospaz9 10 Posted January 10, 2015 What can anyone tell ne about this rifle? My friends dad left it to him. The barrel says Santa Fe Jungle Carbine mk1 md 12011 made by golden state arms. I know they are built off le enfields but what other info can I get? Caliber? Can I find mags for it? Is it even Jersey legal because of the surpressor? Are they worth anything? Thanks in advance
djg0770 481 Posted January 10, 2015 Legal as it's a bolt gun and a flash surpressor is not an issue on a bolt gun. PROBABLY 303 British caliber but you should check the barrel for markings or have a gunsmith check it for you. As you already know it's built on a SMLE action. RobertJames 14 Posted January 10, 2015 I don't believe the Santa Fe Jungle Carbine is an actual No. 5 Mk 1, but rather a No. 1 or a No. 4 made into a "Jungle Carbine". USNMars or NickJC know much more about them than I do. It should be chambered in .303 British, which ammoe is still available from Prvi Partizan. They are fun to shoot, but like previously stated, have it checked if you're not sure about it. Just checked Wiki, the No 5 Mk 1 was designed in 1944. That one is dated 1916, so it started life as a No 1 Mk 3. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jungle_Carbine
nitrospaz9 10 Posted January 10, 2015 I saw that 1916 date and just figured that was when the company itself started up. I was reading about them but no gun ive seen matches it perfectly yet. They've come close but then the markings are always different
RobertJames 14 Posted January 10, 2015 Forgot to mention that Sarco, Gunbroker, or many other online retailers should have magazines for it.
RobertJames 14 Posted January 10, 2015 I've got one too.
nitrospaz9 10 Posted January 10, 2015 Does your marking on the reciever match the others? And are the mags and ammo expensive? I'd like to get him some as his birthday is coming.
RobertJames 14 Posted January 10, 2015 http://www.sgammo.com/catalog/rifle-ammunition/303-british Magazines on Gunbroker look like $30.00 and up. I believe that mine is numbers matching. It's unfortunate that the receiver was drilled and tapped for a scope mount.
nitrospaz9 10 Posted January 11, 2015 Can't really find numbers on it. Where are yours located?
RobertJames 14 Posted January 11, 2015 Can't really find numbers on it. Where are yours located? Left side of the receiver Back side of the bolt lever bottom of the magazine
