More food for thought... Here are some good photos showing the Mod 0 Compensator is actually a compensator. You can clearly see the inside is not open like the A2 birdcage design.

 

The first pic is the PWS FSC. You can see the last ring are both the same diameter of the round exiting the Comp.

To me at least, its not necessarily the design but the way it's marketed.
