new handgun purchases

Just put in for 3 permits and will hopefully be purchasing new guns in about 2 months(hopefully).  My first purchase is without question a VP9.

 

My next purchases however are still in question, I want another .45 and a .44mag.  The .44mag will be a fun range gun so i'm looking at a DE if I can find a used one under $1k.

 

The .45 however, will be a backup, or primary IDPA gun.  I currently use a USP 45 for IDPA and am considering a second USP 45 (maybe stainless if I can find one) just to keep the mechanics the same, I was also considering an XD and M&P, however, those mechanics are a lot different then a USP 45 and unfortunately the HK45 uses different mags, so if I buy a gun that uses different mags I would rather pay $500 not $1k, not really interested in a glock at this point.

 

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I believe jack from JT customs had a .44 mag in burnt bronze under $1000 used.

 

Only reason why I didn't but it was because I needed a 50.

If you're going from a VP9 to an XD/M&P, I think that's going to be a big step down in trigger quality. You might want to figure in the cost of trigger work/replacement. Also, it looks like XD is going to start revamping their entire line (at least the base XD line), so you might want to consider holding off there. On the other hand, it might mean a good opportunity to pick up the original XD pistols on the cheap, especially if you're going to have work done on it anyways.

I'm not going from VP9 to XD.  VP9 i'm getting regardless, the XD is a possibly to fill my need for another .45.  So it's actually XD vs. USP45.  I already have a USP 45 and 13 mags.
