Wave2k 0 Posted January 23, 2015 Not in the market just yet as im more into rifles but i just wondered what the procedure is for just applying for a pistol permit. Do they go through the exact same procedure as your FID, by that i mean writing to your references and taking fingerprints etc
boo 6 Posted January 23, 2015 It's the exact same process, with the only difference being which box you check on the NJSP application. As far as writing to references and fingerprints, it varies by PD. Some will go through the whole process while others don't bother.
Pizza Bob 1,488 Posted January 23, 2015 Most PD's will not require you to go through fingerprinting again. In lieu of fingerprints, they may require a non-criminal background check. The hardcopy application for this (SP-212A) has been supplanted by an on-line process, but call your PD and make certain they are using this - it still may be a transition period. If they are still using hardcopy, the only place you can obtain the form is from your local PD. When submitting, it requires a money order for $18 made out to NJSP - SBI. If they are set-up for the electronic version, you can find that here... https://www.njportal...riminalrecords/ You will need your SBI number (FPID Number) and your PD's ORI number, which they will give you or you can find here... http://www.icpsr.umi...RIs/NJoris.html The cost for the electronic version is $20 (the same $18 + $2 "convenience" fee). Otherwise the process is the same except, as noted previously, which box you check at the top of the form. You can apply for as many as you wish (the PD cannot restrict this), but you can only use one in any 30 day period. They expire 90 days from date of issue, but, at the discretion of your CLEO, may be extended to 180 day from date of issue. You can also use multiple permits if you file for an exemption to purchase more than OGAM. Adios, Pizza Bob
