First Attempt At 10/22 Mods

Recommended Posts

With the help of a couple of You-Tube videos I managed to install a Kidd auto-release bolt, swapped out trigger, mag release, charging handle & barrel band. Also added a picatinny rail and topped it all off with a new BX 15 round mag. Think I need to get another one and I will try a barrel & stock swap along with worked trigger group.  :)

Ruger 10/22s are easy to modify.  Just take your time. Next step would be to change the bolt stop.   You can go the cheap way by using a shaft of a nylon bolt or purchase an after market variety and then improving your bolt with a radius modification on the back end and then a firing pin and bolt face improvement.  See Connecticut Precision Chamberings or "que" for this work.  I just finished my second 10/22 with a complete front to back modification on a takedown, if I could find the camera I will post pics.

I did my first ever few gun "stuffs" (disassemblies, modifications, upgrades, minor 'gunsmithing' etc. etc.) by watching YouTube videos and they were humongous help.

Now I make videos on guns, gun modifications and upgrades and such, and have overwhelmingly positive reviews, and i still watch other peoples videos when I need a hand or have a question or am stumped/having a problem etc.

Congrats, you'll be your own armorer in no time!

And p. p.s, while i am a Remington 597 guy rather than 10/22, I did some upgrades to my 597 which made the gun a lot "better" and were very satisfying to me gunsmith-wise, and now the rifle is a tremendous asset and tons of fun for the whole family.. I'm sure you'll have the similar experiences, congrats and good luck!
