Half-Sy Build... Done!

Recommended Posts

Why "Half-Sy"? Well, I had the lower already. I just built the upper. Had to do a bit of improvising to make the barrel nut git on there, but it all seems to be working well. I'm hoping a range will be open tomorrow, any range that is local. I'd like to put a few round thru her to be sure that she functions.

Paint is truly paint. Krylon in fact. I wanted to give it a try to see how I like the color and layout. I do. Now it's time to save a few pennies and give Michael at Tier 1 some business. Maybe a month or so. To those astute eyes, that's why the foam isn't on there, i'll square that away when I'm 100%.

Anyway, here's the build sheet:

Lower:

Mega Arms forged lower

Magpul enhanced trigger guard

MidwestPX LPK

ALG trigger

ACE rifle length stock kit

Upper:

Mega Arms forged upper

Mcgowen Precision barrel/target crowned 16" 223 Wylde

Yankee Hill Machine "Todd Jarrett" rifle length handguard

MidwestPX BCG/Bolt

Bravo Company small charging handle

Bushnell 1-4x24 illuminated reticle

Thanks for taking a look. Praise, accolades and criticism are all gladly welcomed.

Christopher

Looks great. I'm assuming you haven't fired it yet?

I have not. Hoping for tomorrow...

A couple of things ..

1) you will want that foam tube for the stock, specially in winter

2) Please please please don't mount your scope on the handguard. Handguards move and flex and you don't want that for your scope. Buy a proper scope mount that only attaches to the receiver.

On the stock, i'll foam it as soon as I have it Cerakoted. It'll be an indoor gun until then. The scope was mounted that way so I could keep the handguard aligned. A cheap vise if you will. I will move it shortly. I forgot to do so before I took pictures.

Ran to Bullethole last night. I was there for about 15 minutes. I picked up 20 rounds and did a quick function check. Rifle ran like a top. I really like it.

As an aside, my 223 dies showed up last night as well. Things are looking up.

    • I very seriously doubt this has anything to do with terrorism.    1) Harbor pilots are VERY seriously vetted, and highly trained. Not to mention extremely well paid. My experience knowing a few of them, and knowing how they are recruited and screened tells me that there is a slim to highly unlikely chance that a harbor pilot would have participated in anything like that.    2) Maintenance of foreign flag ships is well known to be dubious. Especially these days. These were NOT US flag, Jones act sailors. It was (to my understanding) a largely Indian crew on that ship, with a Ukrainian Captain. Indian crews are not exactly known for being stellar.    3) The bunkers (fuel) these ships use is ‘Bunker C’, which is a heavy, dirty fuel oil that can, and usually is, pretty contaminated. This stuff ain’t your car grade gasoline or diesel fuel. It’s nasty.   It requires nearly constant filter changes and maintenance to the engine/generators. The ship took on fuel prior to departing port, which would stir up all kinds of shit in the fuel tanks, which would contribute to particulates in the fuel lines/filters.    4) I’d say the posting of the chief engineer for Maserek above was pretty spot on as far as chain of events.    This was a shitty accident, with horrible timing and outcome. Not a terror attack.
    • I saw Lara's interview on Bannon's War Room, and that gave me pause for thought. Her conjecture depends primarily on the veracity of her sources. Regardless, if it's not applicable in any way to this ship disaster, the methods described seem valid to me. And worthy of consideration for the future. As I said before, IMO something is coming.
