n4p226r 105 Posted January 28, 2015 That's exactly my point. You have no idea what you are paying for, no idea if the official Colt type are better then the say .. Primary Arms ones, or if BCM is using the same secret sauce. In any other business that would be called bullshit advertising. If I went and said you should only buy White Bread from Sunbeam because they use a secret formula that no one else has or if I said you should only ever buy Bilstein Shocks because they have a magical TDP you would look at me as I was crazy. But somehow, Colt managed to convince people that if you don't use their secret sauce your gun will explode, and you will die a horrible death on a Afghan mountain side. i don't even think it was colt's doing. i wasn't in the gun game back in the day, but from what i hear, when your choices were colt, bushmaster, and olympic arms, then you were probably getting a better put together product with the colt. add that to the fact that people were even using cast receivers back then. then when other companies started to pop up they seemed to use mil spec to show "hey, we are good like colt, not that other junk out there" now there are plenty of reputable companies to choose from. the largest experience i have is with lower parts kits and i can honestly say colt and LMT parts seem to be significantly nicer than say a PSA parts kit. big enough difference that i put most of the PSA stuff in a "you get what you pay for" category. the problem is, a $500 del ton or PSA probably does 99% of what 99% of people will use it for. if you aren't competing, or posting pictures on the internet for others to ooh and aah over, and you aren't on duty with the gun, its probably rare you will need anything more. but what do i know i have a pair of $3k rifles.
