Selling Long Guns face to face. Can the transaction take place anywhere?

Recommended Posts

Okay so I know I need two CoEs, one for me and one for the buyer. I need to make sure the buyer has an FID with a DL to make sure the names match and the address just for extra security and obviously make sure they are an NJ resident. However I am just wondering, I can sell this wherever we decide to meet? It doesn't have to be a gun range or gun shop? NJ's law about travel allows for traveling to and from a meeting for the transaction? Thanks.

I always try to make the transaction at a somewhat safe location. Especially if I don't know the buyer personally. A range is always a good choice. Or a private business parking lot that you may know the owners of with permission to conduct the transaction prior to setting that spot for the transaction location. That's what I try to do most times. Have done them at home before as well. But if I do you bet I'm armed during the transaction.

You could travel to Readington Airport, jump into a Hot Air Balloon, and as long as you were still in NJ airspace, the transaction would be legal, provided the standard paperwork and ID info is part of the transaction.  Just wait till yer up a few thousand feet before ya start inspecting the rifle or scattergun, so this way Susie Soccermom doesn't see ya and call the PoPo, lol!  And if ya like, have the Pilot fly right over the damn school property a few thousand feet overhead, since the rule is "within a thousand feet" of a school, lol!  Just don't fly over Joint Base McGuire & try this, lol!  Don't wanna scramble any jets for your attempted invasion of the Pine Barrens!

There was a guy here in town a few years ago that caused a lockdown and manhunt just because he was parked a few blocks away from his house and walked his long gun to his car in plain sight lol . He was packing for hunting. Even though he was within the law , I believe at the end of the day he did get slapped with a "disturbing the peace " or something dumb.

The short answer is , anywhere that is not specifically prohibited like a school , and be discreet unless you're bored and welcome the attention .

The short answer is "Yes!" The long answer is "As long as it's a Dunkin Donuts parking lot."

I need to learn not to read any of your posts while consuming beverages. The result is often an ejection of that beverage, from my nose soaking my phone due to excessive laughter. You owe me a roll of paper towels! Small price to pay for having a sense of humor Angelo...
