ChrisJM981 924 Posted February 6, 2015 Is the Comp M4 worth the almost double price of the Pro?
bhunted 887 Posted February 6, 2015 Not to me, but I guess for folks that want the latest and greatest and have the blow, I suppose. I have and Aimpoint Pro and a T1, 2moa and very happy with them. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Vicious 138 Posted February 6, 2015 Ugh, Aimpoint or ACOG? That 40% off is tempting... This is a hard decision because I don't NEED either. Probably shouldn't be buying them either... Lol
Scrap 4 Posted February 6, 2015 Ugh, Aimpoint or ACOG? That 40% off is tempting... This is a hard decision because I don't NEED either. Probably shouldn't be buying them either... Lol Are you considering your rife more of a close quarters battle / home defense-type AR or a general patrolling/warfighting type rifle? The Aimpoint would excel at CQB and the ACOG would excel at a general patrol rifle , obviously there are exceptions and considerations but that is the easiest way to break it down. My first AR I put an Aimpoint Micro on it and I LOVED IT- amazing. I just always figured i'd add another AR w/ an ACOG on it down the road (never got to lol). As far as the Comp M4S - I don't think it's that much better really - just the fact it's the official US Army optic, really. The PRO is a pretty feature packed Aimpoint and particularly when you consider it's also the cheapest.
Vicious 138 Posted February 7, 2015 ACOG sale denied! Got an e-mail back instantly about needing a card that they handed out at some shows. Oh well, I need to do some serious pondering. My AR is just a plinker. I want an optic just for kicks, so yeah... I suppose I would want it to be more of a patrol rifle. Shoot a bit further out. RecessedFilter 222 Posted February 7, 2015 Aimpoint PRO's are such a great buy. $350-$400 brand new, offer the high quality and reliability of Aimpoint - you can't beat it.
boo 6 Posted February 7, 2015 Any thoughts on an aimpoint pro versus an eotech 512 for a cqb rifle?
bhunted 887 Posted February 8, 2015 Ut oh.... You are discussing an Eoturd in an Aimpoint thread? Blasphemy! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Vicious 138 Posted February 8, 2015 Aimpoint PRO's are such a great buy. $350-$400 brand new, offer the high quality and reliability of Aimpoint - you can't beat it. I was thinking that, but I have allocated roughly 750 - 800 for an optic, so I may consider a compM4... then again, I can buy more ammo if I go with a PRO. Any thoughts on an aimpoint pro versus an eotech 512 for a cqb rifle? I have heard too many things about eotech optics crapping out while firing (read blinking) and having issues with batteries corroding. Plus I have heard that the 65 MOA circle can be a bit fuzzy. No hands on experience though. The other factor I don't like is that it is so much wider than the AR. That all being said, word is that the circle dot makes for some really fast target acquisition. We need a place that demo's optics!!!
checko 180 Posted February 8, 2015 Any thoughts on an aimpoint pro versus an eotech 512 for a cqb rifle? If you're gonna go eotech get an xps or exps series. I like em but I woulfld buy a 512 over a pro.
jeff47 30 Posted February 9, 2015 I have a couple of the eotech xps2, one of which I've been running on my AR for a couple of years and through about 4 different carbine courses with no issues. The ring can appear pixilated especially if you have an astigmatism, or the brightness is set too high. Ironically that goes away completely if you're using it at range with a magnifier. carl_g 568 Posted February 9, 2015 People seem to bash the eotechs on here but they seem to be good enough for the Navy Seals?
fatty 241 Posted February 9, 2015 I have an exps2-0 and have no issues with it. It definitely adds some weight to my rifle, but I love it. Can't go wrong with either IMO. I also have a vortex SPARC but I'll most likely replace it with PRO somewhere down the line.
djg0770 481 Posted February 10, 2015 I have an early eotech 5 series with NV (so early it's only a dot not a ring and dot). My next optic will be an aimpoint. The eo eats batteries.
High Exposure 5,635 Posted February 10, 2015 If you have the money the Aimpoint T1 is the way to go. If not, the Aimpoint PRO is impossible to beat. I had an M4 when they first came out. The T1 wasn't developed yet and the PRO was quite a few years away. It was a nice optic, but big, heavy, and expensive. It was developed to replace the Aimpoint Comp M3 as the Army's new M68 CCO. It's worth every penny of you need that. But with the production of the T1 and the PRO, I don't see a need to drop that much $. You could almost buy 2 PROs for one M4. As far as EOTurds... Yuck! I am faster and more accurate with the Aimpont dot than the EO circledot. If you are a SEAL and have basically an unlimited supply of batteries, spare parts, technical support and armorers, go for it. When it breaks, dump it in the river, go to the QM and draw a new one. When batteries don't cost anything and you can put in a new set every day, sure, that EO is awesome. The reported 800 hour battery life on an EO seems great too, until you realize the Aimpoint has 50,000 hour battery life. The EOs auto shutdown feature after 4 or 8 hours also blows. I have a T1 I haven't shut off for 3 years. Still going strong.
RUTGERS95 889 Posted February 10, 2015 agree, you simply can't beat the pro on any level. they have proven durability, great price, reliable, 4yrs of battery life and their prevalence in the mktplace is an asset. I hate eotechs fyi
boo 6 Posted February 10, 2015 I didn't realize there was so much hate for the Eotech. I mentioned the 512 because when on sale it seems to be at a comparable price to the Aimpoint Pro. I'm currently looking to upgrade from a Vortex Strikefire, and my main complaints are 1) really small viewing area: I don't see an aimpoint solving this, but I see eotech as an improvement. 2) It can be hard for me to find the dot: I figure in a stress situation I might not be able to acquire the dot quickly, but I figure there's no way I'm missing the eotech circle. One of these days I'm going to try and see how they look in person, but I need to save up money in the meanwhile.
High Exposure 5,635 Posted February 10, 2015 1) If you open both eyes and use a RDS as it was meant to be used, any "small viewing window" issue is instantly abated. You still close your non dominant eye when taking precision shots, but viewing widow size doesn't matter on those shots - only dot placement. 2) Finding the dot is all about consistancy when you mount the rifle to your shoulder and in the way your face meets the stock. Also, keeping both eyes open helps here too.
boo 6 Posted February 10, 2015 Hmmm. Maybe I need to put the optic money to a carbine class instead...
ChrisJM981 924 Posted February 10, 2015 I couldn't say no at that price. It's coming with me to the eye doctor's office so they can adjust my eyes to the dot.
s8n 14 Posted February 12, 2015 I couldn't say no at that price. It's coming with me to the eye doctor's office so they can adjust my eyes to the dot. That is a great idea i never thought of doing that..
bhunted 887 Posted February 12, 2015 Soooooooooo.... did anyone take advantage of this deal? Or did it die as an Eoturd analogy?
SkiingGunMonkey 10 Posted February 13, 2015 I pulled the trigger on a T1, hard to pass it up for the price, especially since I have a riser for it.
