NFA gun trust in NJ possible

Recommended Posts

Old thread, but I'll add my two cents...

It's not worth it. Earlier this year I had a lawyer look into it and someone at NJSP...the trust I was told is basically worthless in NJ. I know someone in NJ who managed to get the MG permit signed off (one was a Doctor, the others were FFL's who closed but managed to keep the MG's they had in inventory) but you have to demonstrate to the judge a reason/need for the MG and saying you are a "collector" only goes so far.

AOWs are possible BUT the CLEO still needs to sign off which isn't likely unless you have it good with the Chief. Oh, and I couldn't find an FFL willing to transfer a MAC Stinger AOW pistol for me, I just gave up and buried the idea.

Nappen said the Ithaca 20GA auto burglar shotgun was legal in NJ since it's a smooth bore pistol and qualifies as AOW...again, no NJ dealer would touch it!

If you manage to get your hands of an AOW in NJ more power to you, for me it's not worth the headache.

I have an NFA gun trust for two reasons, first to protect my collection and two to avoid CLEO sign-off on my title II items.  Why do I want some transient elected person to make those decisions?  That's one of the many reasons for moving to Florida.  Another benefit is that there is future classification of firearms that negatively affects something in your collection you'll be able to retain.  I also have a generational gun trust.  However, the components that you want to buy have to comply with state law.  I want SBR and a suppressor, neither of which are against the law in Florida.  In fact Florida has now allowed for suppressed firearm hunting.  You can not use the the trust to get around state law.  NJ strictly prohibits the holding of NFA in the state so the trust won't help you.
