Going to Tennessee

Recommended Posts

I'll be traveling down to Pigeon Forge over the weekend and staying for a week. Anyone have any advice or tips for the area? Yes, I will be enjoying my freedom to carry. I plan on spending some time in the smokey mountains if the weather breaks a little bit. Any good food joints? Something else worth checking out?

Going waaay back to when the Worlds Fair was down there my girlfriend, now wife!, spent a week around the Smokeys and one of the best memorys we have was hitting up as many of the roadside bbq tents we could, especially after some light partying! We were basically carnivores the whole trip.So if you like bbq, indulge.

Although its better on a Motorcycle , if you have time take a drive on the tail of the dragon. It's an amazing drive/ride.

It may or may not be open depending on weather. There are some beautiful winding country roads with great views .

Knoxville has some decent places to eat etc. i just don't remember the name of them ;-)

If the weather permits. Take A trip to the Smokey Mountain National Park, Just outside Dollywood.  Take the trip up to Clingmans Dome, Its A great ride to the top. Just beware it is A decnt Hike up, although it is A paved trail with rest benches along the way.

was just down there with my wife.. going back this summer. Her aunt lives  a mile outside the park in Townsend. Beautiful. We went to the Smoky Mtn Brewery (i think theres 3 or 4 of them) in Gatlinburg and it was really good. Cades Cove was cool and theres underground Caverns Tuckaleechee? or something which were cool too.. We had warmer weather so we were outside more but youll find stuff to do. Gatlinburg, Maryville & Knoxville are all close also for a little more shopping, food etc.

And if you want to see some wild hand made carvings and souveneirs check out the shop my wifes aunt works at (she's originally from red bank). she works with Dave and makes real cool pottery. http://captndave.com/ 125 Wears Valley Rd

Enjoy!

We stopped at Natural Bridge in VA on the way down and spent a day there and at the nearby caverns.  Natural Bridge is definitely worth seeing.  We also did about 20 miles of skyline drive which was fun but 20 miles was just enough for us.  Skyline drive may be closed for the winter.
