What's the skinny on .45acp Revolvers?

Recommended Posts

I'm out yesterday running errands and my cellphone rings. It's a dealer and he's got a 10 year old, hardly fired (less than 1 box) S&W 625-8,  after sleeping on it for one night, I got up and literally pulled the trigger on it this morning.

Thank you Bob, for all the great info in the PM

I will save it and get the proper tools to use with this, my first moon clip revolver.

As to pictures, as soon as I get my permits and go down to pick up the frame and bring it home and reassemble it, I will be sure to snap some pix and post them here.

Very nice! Those appear to be older Hogue's, which have more pronounced finger grooves than the newer ones. I have a very early Hogue that was made by Guy Hogue, on my Model 25-2

Have you had the grip off the gun? The attachment hardware is different for the older Hogue's and requires that you remove the cross-pin, whereas the newer type hardware uses the cross-pin on which to hang the stirrup.

Enjoy it.

As a matter of fact, I removed the wood grip and reinstalled the factory rubber combat grips.

The cross pin stayed intact, but the 2 stirrups are threaded differently.

Factory rubber grip uses a larger diameter screw than the fancy wood grip.

My moon tool will be in the po box tomorrow and this new wheel gun is on the dancecard for my next range trip.
