Sling attachment on handguard

Recommended Posts

Wondering if any of you guys have used the handguard as an attachment point for a 2 point sling on a pump shotgun?

I installed the Magpul M-Lok handguard on my 590A1 and wanted to use one of the slots for a QD sling attachment point. I'm just not sure whether that will affect cycling the action with the sling attached (if there's slack or no slack, etc.)

Thoughts?

I have the magpul on my 590 SP also and there is some play, I would think that putting a sling on the forend of anny shotgun would cause some binding issues if it was taught.  I also think that the binding that it would cause can result in some sort of permanent damage over time.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

This is my current setup.  You can see there's not too much room for a clamp with the light attachment there in-line with the barrel...

Plus, this is a 6 shot tube so it doesn't extend out flush with the barrel.

I guess another option is to install a sling adapter onto the side rail piece above the light..

Have the loop from the barrel that slides over the magazine drilled and taped on the bottom. I have a few Mossberg's that came that way factory. Attach your sling there out of the way. You don't want the weight of the gun pulling on your pump handle, when it's slung. Won't interfere with your light or your action, and is a safe point to hold the weight of the gun.

why would you not mount the light on the hand guard.. where your hand stays the whole time..

Fair point.  Mounting the light on the hand guard wasn't an option for me until I installed this Magpul version, which was just recently.

I've owned this Mossy for prob ~10yrs now and have practiced / trained with the light in its current location.

Its what I'm used to now and prefer.. but agree, if this was a brand new setup, the light would probably be mounted to the hand guard.

with all due respect.. and while the current position is likely fine.. I would reconsider.. get that thing on the forearm and you can manipulate the light at any time while maintaining your natural grip on the weapon... additionally it will keep the front rail (potential sling point) and light away from one another..

    • My township sent out notices that they are dispatching "assessors" to do exterior and interior inspections on all properties.  We have had an assessor in our home probably three times since we've owned this property. What I found interesting is that the word TAX is not mentioned once in the letter, which leads me to believe the inspection is a little more broader than what the letter suggests.  Like they left out the word tax for a very specific reason. Refusal of the interior inspection is allowed (pfft, allowed) and we plan on doing exactly that.  It's the same freaking house it was when we bought it 28 years ago. Just wondering, without getting political in the GD section, how often does your town or borough inspect the interior of your home?

    • I have a like new (only zeroed) PSA Sabre KAC M110 Clone in 7.62x51mm. This is PSA's clone version of the infamous Knights Armament M110. Very high quality, excellent 2 stage trigger, 20" chrome lined barrel, adjustable gas block, and is NJ legal with a pinned Surefire SOCOM muzzle brake.  Radian Raptor charging handle and Radian ambi safety. Upper and lower are billet receivers compatible with all KAC SR-25 and LMT MWS/MARS-H pattern receivers.  Im no where close to being a long range shooter but ive been able to get 0.7 MOA out of it with 175gr federal gold medal match ammo and Im sure the rifle is capable of much better accuracy. Asking $1650 (which is a steal for what you get) at any FFL thats a reasonable distance from Jersey City. I can also ship but that would be on your dime.  Optic/bipod etc not included but can be purchased if interested. Vortex Razor Gen-II HD 3-18x50 FFP with the new EBR-7C MRAD illuminated reticle in a 1.54 reptilia mount. Id include the optic for another $1700. Happy to answer any questions or provide more pictures. Not interested in any trades. Thank you.
