Need ammo cans?

Recommended Posts

So I'm feeling pretty ignorant here. Why do you guys need so many ammo cans? Is ALL your ammo stored in steel cans because you don't have a separate storage box? Is this a transportation issue? (There's no law that says that.

I have one steel can but never really use it for anything. What am I missing? Sorry for dumb question.

Honestly, I have 6 of them, and I have used exactly one, for transporting ammo to and from the range, and only recently after I joined CJ and could bring more ammo for longer range sessions.  If you have a lot of ammo that you are looking to store long term (prepping, etc), they would be good.  Obviously, others have uses for them too, like Deer said

ammo cans are great general storage containers. Because of transport laws in NJ, they are great for storing pistols and ammo in separate containers.

They also let you store ammo by caliber in a dry airtight container, especially important if you keep a good stock on hand. I use them because I buy ammo when it's on sale. I normally bring an allotted amount to the range of each caliber for each gun I am bringing

Ahhhhh so here is one I was getting at? What nj law says ammo needs to be In a different compartment than the gun? Mine all goes in the same bag to the range.

You were fishing for that particular answer? Odd. You need to bring more ammo to the range of you can fit it in the same bag :)

I use them to store caliber specific "bulk" tins in an easy to grab container. I have 5.56, 9mm, .45, and 7.62x39 in separate cans now. The other has misc specialty ammo.

We'll wasn't actually fishing. But it was one of my "wonderings" why guys wanted ammo cans did they think it was a law. I see guys at the range bring locked ammo cans all the time.

Now i don't reload so I'm dealing with ammo in factory boxes I could see the need for some sort of storage for loose ammo but if the main reason was "transportation laws" we should get that misinformation cleared.

I believe that was well covered a year ago when we debated whether you could even drive around with loaded mags right next to your gun in the same bag. The answer was YES.

I was contemplating buying some ammo cans at auction from government liquidation and every time they went for almost $10 each. Plus freight, plus buyers fee they were gonna be like 14 each

Frustration to say the least, so I was looking around and I found this place:

I am glad I did, I bought 12 50 cal cans for $143 delivered (free shipping)

They came today and I am amazed. they are grade 1 cans on their site buy are in nearly perfect shape

I payed less than $12 per can delivered
