All Rifle Ammo to be Banned?

Recommended Posts

I believe that's the long range plan.

M855 does not meet the definition of armor penetrating ammo under federal law.

18 USC 921(a)(17):
"(B) The term `armor piercing ammunition' means-

(i) a projectile or projectile core which may be used in a handgun and
which is constructed entirely (excluding the presence of traces of other
substances) from one or a combination of tungsten alloys, steel, iron, brass,
bronze, beryllium copper, or depleted uranium; or

(ii) a full jacketed projectile larger than .22 caliber designed and
intended for use in a handgun and whose jacket has a weight of more than 25
percent of the total weight of the projectile.

M855 does not meet i or ii above. The ATF is banning it based on the fact that it can penetrate body armor and is a danger to police.  That's not a legal reason to ban it but the ATF did so anyway.

Guess what? ALL RIFLE AMMO CAN PENETRATE BODY ARMOR. So if the ATF has this authority, they can ban it all.

Handguns are used in 97% of crimes committed with firearms. Still, in the name of public safety, the government wants desperately to ban rifles. They may have found a way to do it. If congress doesn't stand up, they may have found a way to disarm us.

Before the 2016 elections there will be some sort of tragic shooting event and this admin will turn it into the best reason to take some sort of action against private firearm ownership. Whether it involves handgun, rifles, shotguns, ammo of some sort, it looks too scary, whatever, they will try to push it prior to the election.

This will take all eyes off hillary and her illegal doings (or who ever is running on the commy side of the ticket) and place all blame on the evil republicans and conservatives. If the law passes, we lose. If the law does not pass, the media will blame repubs and we will lose the election anyway.

The caveat here is: "armor piercing ammunition that can be used in a handgun."

But it doesn't meet the rest of the federal definition. It's not

"constructed entirely (excluding the presence of traces of other substances) from one or a combination of tungsten alloys, steel, iron, brass, bronze, beryllium copper, or depleted uranium"

nor is it

"whose jacket has a weight of more than 25 percent of the total weight of the projectile"

The projectile is steel tip, lead or bismuth core (depending on age) and a copper jacket that isn't nearly 25% of weight.  The newer M855A1 has a copper core - according to what I've read.

This stuff IS NOT ARMOR PIERCING BY FEDERAL LAW!
