Freedom Munitions 9 mm / 115 gr Reman Recall

Recommended Posts

Apparently Freedom is reaching out to customers who may have purchased some of the suspect lots of this ammo. Knowing how ammo can change hands, I figured better to be safe than sorry and make a general post.

We have discovered an issue with three lots of Freedom Munitions 9mm 115 gr. RN Reman ammunition manufactured between 1/25/15 and 1/29/15.

We would appreciate if you could check your ammunition for the following lot numbers:

18605-17996-47-60

19691-18219-89-117

18605-18518-47-60

(17996, 18219, 18518 are the key portions.)

The lot number information is located on the white sticker on the end of the 50 count box. It is below the bar code and corresponding bar code numbers. If you find you have any of these lot numbers, please advise us of the number of rounds you have and a Return Label will be emailed to you so this product can be returned to our factory. We will provide replacement product (including a free box of 50 rounds as a thank you for your assistance in this matter.)

We ask that you please call our customer service group at (208) 748-1490, (208) 748-1491 or (208) 748-1492 OR send an email to [email protected] confirming you do or do not have one of these lots. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Please contact us if you have any questions or need additional information.

Apparently according to people, Freedom Munitions ammo is loaded light.... if they're getting squibs - it's loaded too light.

Here are their ammo specs: http://www.freedommunitions.com/Ammo-Specs-s/1952.htm

Generally their ammo velocity is in line with other manufacturers. But their 10mm is underpowered for my tastes - but still hotter than most.

I have shot thousands of round of their handgun reman ammo and have had no problem.

Their 9mm 115gr is advertised at 1150 FPS.  Someone on Reddit chronoed it out of a Glock 17 factory 4.5" barrel - they got 150 FPS lower than advertised spec.  Have you chronoed your loads from them at all?

No I have not. I'm just going by my personal shooting experience with them...the 45, 40, and 9 shot very similar to say WWB. However the 10mm is noticeably weak - but most are in my experience except Ultramax and Buffalo Bore.

I chronoed the 115 gr 9mm rounds from my 5" Spartan.  Low was 1114 and high of 1179.  At 1114, it's just barely above the minimum PF for USPSA which is fine by me.

I did order about 2k rounds of their 115 gr this past February.  I'm a bit disappointed.  I found one of the individual 50 round boxes damaged.  A few of the rounds in there were seated too deep due to the box being dropped.  I checked the shipping boxes and there didn't seem to be any damage to them.

I went and inspected every box.  There were quite a few rounds that were either seated too deep during the reloading process or were just simply damaged, particularly the rounds in the corners of the tray.  In total about 45 rounds were bad.  That's a 2.5% failure rate.  Too high if you ask me.  If I blindly fired them, who knows what would happen.

Mail was sent to customer service and no response.  Customer service is definitely lacking.

This is my last order from them.  I figure it was easier to just buy light loads for matches but I think I'll just load my own moving forward.  Better quality control.

do you have a time frame as to when you ordered those rounds? I've noticed when people ordered during their mega sales the QC seemed to drop, versus during their "regular" priced offerings.

even better, would you be willing to post up purchase date and box lot #s? Thinking maybe we should have a thread here to collect that info. In fact, I'm going to go start one now.

edit: done. http://njgunforums.com/forum/index.php/topic/75720-ammo-data-thread/?p=959079

They were purchased on Feb 15th during their $5 shipping.  Lot #s are 21003-20705-126-44.  I didn't chrono these rounds but I did chrono some rounds I purchased before.
