Dick's (Mays Landing) shelves EMPTY !

Recommended Posts

Took a stroll into dicks today and there's not even a speck of dust on the shelves... yellow signs were the guns & ammo would normally be saying something along the lines of...'due to unforeseen circumstances we have no guns/ammo available at this time'

I ask a guy working there what's going on and he starts to say ...'due to unforeseen circumstances...' I just walked away and said thanks anyways...

Did I miss something ? Dicks no longer carrying ammo ???? Anyone else been to a Dicks in NJ this morning ??

This happens at different Dick's all the time. Either the store has not received its license renewal yet, or as mentioned above no licensed employees available.  Was the store re-arranged lately?  Then they need to be re-inspected again before sales can resume.

I doubt they sold out. Looks the same in there as last few times I've been in.

I guess they have no employees like you said but I can't imagine only having 1 he/she would have to work every hour dicks is open, and it would be odd for 2 or 3 employees to quit at the same time unless for a good reason so either they made a big enough mistake and everyone got fired or suspended or its internally something bigger..or simply license ran out..either way what a disappointment

Maybe they all went to work for Bass Pro?

Possibly, but with so many out of work around here I heard the Bass Pro job expo was packed...unless Bass Pro offered a good enough incentive to leave Dick's can't see why they would leave...

Can't wait for Bass Pro to open..thanks to the CRDA who paid for most of it..Less than a month away, now we need a Cabellas !I heard

Are they going to sell guns and ammo because I called the corporate office and asked them that and they said they weren't sure.

Word is they will have a full gun counter.

Hopefully that's the case so they will stock pistols/rifles/shotguns, ammo and do FFL transfers.

They had at least a 3 hour wait to be interviewed for non-exempt, min wage jobs and all management jobs had been filled. I foresee a HIGH turnover rate and terrible customer service because very few people have outdoor knowledge or even care about the products they are selling.

I expect the doors to be closed in 5-7 years, especially since 5 casinos have closed and the economy in the area is terrible. Tourist traffic may be ok if the wives are on their way to "the walk" and drop the husbands off. But how much can a guy fit in a suit case and fly home?

Right now people complain about spending $10 on a meal, how many will flock to Bass Pro and buy outdoors gear? not many...

Atlantic City is a slum no matter what anyone says.

Like you sad, 5 casinos closed and thousands out of work who has money to burn on guns/ammo/fishing/outdoor gear? in the AC Press is pages of foreclosures...

I hope it works out for them but I also expect it to close within 5 or so years, not enough money around here (anymore) and tourists will probably account for the majority of sales.

I tend to agree with A bleek outlook for the store.  Where will customers park? What will Amtrak think when customers use the train to get there, then need to bring their purchases on the train. I will probably make A trip down just to check it out. But I am just about in the middle travel wise to Cabelas Delaware and AC. So Cabelas is A no brainer if I need to buy something from one or the other.

I think its a 5 or so lane pistol range.

This makes SJSC all the more worth it. $250 a year and you get rifle, pistol and shotgun ranges, plus you are not shooting at targets that shoot back :D

I can't see many joining to shoot pistols only at Bass Pro, and I'm sure double taps and jacketed rounds will be a no-go.

I hear you there man I wish I lived closer to SJSC I would join in a heartbeat. I work in EHT, so I would have to drive back to Ocean County to get my guns and ammo then drive back down to SJSC.

I don't think there will be anything to "join".  Just walk in, pay a fee and use the range.  It's a nice bonus for the store, but I doubt many will be making any sort of trip just to use it.

Looks like there's some forum guys taking part in construction, awesome! Thanks for pics.

And yes I heard the range is not membership it's basically pay to play, handgun only.

Yes AC is the hood but any business is good and brings jobs for a year in construction and years in retail. As bad as ac has become those stores still do good..I know for sure they did employ some knowledgable locals as well..

You can thank the CRDA...don't quote me but I believe they contributed something like 80% of the funding toward this project.
