Assuming a handgun you must ship it UPS or FedEX one-day air, even if it is going three miles across the state border.  When they ship it back, they can ship it second day express - go figure.  The only issue you will have is that if the repair requires a new receiver (i.e. - new serial number) you will require a new P2P and it will have to be shipped to an FFL here in New Jermany.

You can have FedEx or UPS come to your house to pick it up if you have a label for it.  Otherwise I was advised it (but who the heck knows for sure) that you can legally take it to FedEx or UPS as they are acting as an agent for the repair facility or manufacturer.

Provided the place of business is a licensed repair or manufacturer FFL, you simply ship the gun to them via UPS or FEDEX if a handgun. They can ship the gun back directly to you.

Precisely. I've used FedEx to ship my pistol to repair shop and the repair shop sent pistil back to my home. Easy peasy.

2 easy options.

#1

Take it to A FFL that you know and have him ship it for you.

#2

If its the manufacturer have them send you A prepaid shipping label.

Both options are less costly than shipping it yourself

#1 is usually the easiest and cheapest option. FFL's are allowed to use the USPS to ship handguns and the postage + insurance + the FFL fee is usually cheaper than UPS or FedEx next day.
