Online form for purchase permits

Recommended Posts

Just applied for purchase permits. My local pd informed me that I had to use the online form and pay $20.00 (includes $2.00 service fee)through the nj portal. No more paper forms on "non criminal" background check. Has anyone else used this online form portal and has it shortened the processed or delayed it?

My local pd is usually very good about the process, but I guess this is a new requirement from nj state police.

Definitely speeds it up. Previously you gave a check to the local PD permit clerk, who would then forward the check to the State PD. With the new system the time frame is typically dependent on how fast your reference letters are turned around.

I try to always have a permit ready in case I come across a good deal. In Woodbridge I typically get them in 3 weeks now.

so essentially, this is another form of registration added onto the registration we already go through.....'cause now there's a cc number used in conjunction with the application process, and god only knows whoelse gets copies of this since it's online......

Going on the site and having no business will get you no where. If you are applying, the town will give you their municple code and url and you will apply with that. I've used it and it's fine...

Yeah, my PD told me yesterday that in the beginning of March they changed this. They told me it should speed things up, though it will likely still take 4 weeks or so.

Then again Stratford is actually really good with firearms permits. Not as good as Haddon Heights (friend got his in 2 weeks), but they at least get stuff to me in the time legally allowed haha. Plus they're friendly, helpful, and don't add any BS forms or whatever, and are open for dropping off paperwork during normal business hours (none of this "2pm every other Thursday" crap I've heard of)

Here's the website for ORI numbers...

http://www.icpsr.umich.edu/icpsrweb/NACJD/ORIs/NJoris.html

Pizza Bob-

Not sure where they got those numbers. My local State Police barracks ORI# was not the one listed. I got my ORI number directly from the firearms permit Trooper at the barracks.

It's not my website. Maybe the number you were given sends your results directly to the NJSP Firearms Investigation Unit. No point in directing it to a local barracks only to be redirected to the unit from whence it came.

I also thought the cutoff was March 1 - at least that's what I was told by my local PD. I dropped off my last set of paperwork on Feb 28 and was told I was the last one to use the old process in town. And fwiw, permits were returned on 4/8 so 5 week turnaround in Branchburg. But I got the new format P2P - the full-page size one.

If you are that paranoid, go to Walmart and buy a pre-paid credit card that has none of your information on it and use that!

I'm dropping off permit apps at my PD on Tuesday.  The town site doesn't mention any of this.  So I assume they'll provide the info when I drop off the printed app.

Only thing they do say on the town site is "typed" applications only. Nothing hand written will be accepted. Which I think has been the case for at least a couple of years.
