Golf battery 1,223 Posted April 30, 2015 So my father wants to get my mother a 22 pistol. She handled a bunch and she felt the browning buckmark was most comfortable. I see there are a few different models of the buckmark. Any pros or cons with this line of pistols. Theyre lucky to state there residency in florida so no nics or that stuff. He has a ccw for florida so all he has to do is just go to a shop and purchase it with no governmental delay. What say the jury on this deliberation? maintenanceguy 510 Posted April 30, 2015 Bought one for my 15 yo daughter to shoot about 6 months ago. She could shoot my other handguns but was uncomfortable with the larger calibers. It's a great gun! We were going back and forth between the Buckmark and the Ruger Mark III or 22/45. I think both are good guns but I'm glad we got the Buckmark. Golf battery 1,223 Posted April 30, 2015 Yes i suggested to stay away from a 22/45. I havent heard of any reliable ones. Problems from day one with my cheap chiappa 22/45. Never had a full mag go through it yet without a failure.

Golf battery 1,223 Posted April 30, 2015 I see. I have no experience with that model.
Vicious 138 Posted April 30, 2015 It's a great little gun. It's basically a Ruger MkIII upper on a 1911 style frame. I love mine. I wanted to sell it to fund other projects, but I couldn't go through with it. lol http://www.ruger.com/products/2245Target/models.html
kirk2022 43 Posted April 30, 2015 You cant go wrong with the Buckmark. Lots of variety in them. Mine is A URX with fiber optic front sight. Real nice for older eyes.
T Bill 649 Posted April 30, 2015 If for target shooting the 5.5 inch barrel would be best for sight picture and alignment. Model? Her choice. The 7.25 or 4 inch may just be too difficult for her to be proficient with. Try to rent one first, how it feels and how it shoots, could be two different things. I would have her try a Ruger 22/45 5.5 inch target or lite as well. Saying that, the light version maybe a great option for her they are about 10 ounces lighter than the standard models. Both Ruger and Browning have light models now. I prefer the Ruger for reliability and the available aftermarket parts, esp. triggers that just make it a great target 22LR. See Volquartzen and Tandemkross for their products.
msokad 3 Posted April 30, 2015 I've had a buckmark as well for about 20 years. Definitely a great pistol and highly suggest it to anyone.
Golf battery 1,223 Posted May 1, 2015 Thank you for your input. I think her decision will be with one of the buckmark models. My concern was with reliability and it seems the buckmark will do the job. Its just for target shooting when she goes to the range with my father. I cant wait to retire!!!!!! gleninjersey 2,139 Posted June 7, 2015 One of my friends has a Buckmark. It's a tack driver. Very accurate. Your mother will enjoy it.
