Thinking of visiting Range-14 tomorrow... Do they have hourly rates?

Recommended Posts

Hey all.  I'm going to be joining SJSC the 24th but I'm dieing to shoot my new AR setup and the only outdoor range I've found that doesn't require an orientation (at least according to their website) is Range-14.

So, I'll be off tomorrow and I'm thinking I'll visit Range-14 since it's only about an hour drive.  They're website doesn't indicate if they have hourly rates, but from what I've read a membership is only $60 and you can join and shoot the same day, any day.

Can anyone who is a member confirm?  I'd like to come shoot, and even if they don't have hourly rates I'll definitely get a membership for only $60.  If I can just come, buy and shoot, do I have to bring my own targets/backers or do they have a store on-site?  I'll probably bring my buddy along as well as a guest, but if any of you guys will be there it'd be cool to meet and shoot with ya.

Range 14 is a good place to shoot and you do start shooting the same day.

$60 membership (ID needed)

$4 per hour per person (4 ppl max per table)

they don't sell ammo

they DO sell targets, snacks, soda (drink and shoot), safety glass, eye protection and rent spotting scope.

Rules

steel target at 200 yards

ground targets at 25 yards

target on a post (paper) 15 yards

10 min of setup 20 min of shooting cycles.

no rapid fire (you get yelled at, worth it for a mag dump)

If you have a target stand that's helpful, but for $3 you can buy a couple of types of 18 W x 36 H targets backed with rigid poster board mounted on a stake. They have other smaller targets as well. There's a post hole digger there if you need it. I think it's the ranges anyway.

Avoid positions 1, 2 and 3. Unless you like being buzzed constantly by wood borer bees. Those are wood structure lanes. 4 and up are covered with a big steel roof. I didn't see bees there. Drove my daughter crazy but she still shot.

The entrance is easy to miss. Smallish brown sign says range 14 on it. Turn there. Take a look at google maps. There's other military ranges in the area. You'll know when you're close.

Good place to shoot. A little sandy. Wear boots. You back your vehicle up to your spot.

Other rules...

Weapons cased except at shooting position.

You need to use a chamber flag. They sell a bunch of bright pull ties for $1 that will suffice if u need some.

They provide pretty good instructions during cease fires. You should have no problem with the rules.

And you can have three or four guests with you. So no need to pay membership for wife or kids. Just guest them and pay the $4 per hour for them.

Have fun.

Nice, So I can come tomorrow around 1:30, buy a membership and shoot?  I like it.

Now I have passed a sign before that said, "Range 14", while working in the area so I'm pretty sure I already know where this is and it's not actually on base, but you don't need to be a service member to shoot here right?  I only ask because you said $60(ID Required).  You mean regular ID, not mil ID?

And by chamber flag, you mean the bright colored thing that goes into the chamber to show the bolt is open right?  I have one of those.

EDIT:  Wait, are you meaning to tell me I can shoot at soda cans?  If such is the case I can bring a whole heap of empty beer cans to shoot at... lol

You don't need to be a service member, the range is open to the public, just sign up, pay and shoot.  The whole process takes maybe 5 minutes to join.

The chamber flag is the bright colored thing that shows the chamber is clear, they sell colored cable ties if you need them, and they are inexpensive, maybe a dollar or two for a bunch of flags.

You can shoot clay targets on the ground or in stands, water bottles or jugs and cans, don't know about beer cans but soda cans are fine.
