BlackGT 0 Posted May 23, 2015 Long story short, I finally received my FID card and bought 3 firearms, I couldn't resist. The G43 and the Benelli SuperNova Tactical I am completely satisfied with. However, the M&P 15 Sport I am having second guessed myself. I want to change the crappy buttstock, the crappy pistol grip, the ugly plastic handguard, etc. I feel like I should just build my own at this point. I will eventually want a different upper (riffle length) too. There is just too much I want to change to justify replacing it all because I will have a completely different gun plus all of the stock parts to build my stock AR15 back up! Just wanting to hear your opinions. Keep the M&P 15 and build one regardless? Try and sell it? But I will lose my shirt since I was full boated the price. I'm sure returns aren't possible on them even though I haven't even cleaned it yet. Any opinions? Or just stick with the M&P 15? This is just for fun at the range. No competitions at all. I like the idea of having a gun built the way I want it. Instead of modifying and spending twice what the gun initially cost.
dajonga 396 Posted May 23, 2015 I would say take your time and shoot what you got. Build what you want to build while shooting the M&P. Then keep the M&P as a backup or loaner for a friend. It is not a big buck AR, so no big loss on keeping it as a second gun.

T Bill 649 Posted May 23, 2015 Sounds to me like time for a build. DO NOT start changing that M&P around. Waste of time and money. Just shoot it and start putting your dream build on paper. New product is announced all the time. Who knows you may even change your mind while building it.
werder 0 Posted May 24, 2015 Agree with previous posts. Shoot what you have. The best way to learn is to shoot. Learn more what you like and dislike and you will end up building what you really want later on. I feel from your post that if you start a new build now you really won't know what is best for you and will spend more money modifying your new build too often. Don't rush into it. The M&P is a good platform. Learn to sight / zero and the different ammo characteristic and trigger control. And share some Gdam pics of what you got! DeerSlayer 241 Posted May 25, 2015 Don't waste any $ building an M&P up. Build your dream AR slowly, shoot your M&P in the meantime.
NickySantoro 211 Posted May 25, 2015 I'd keep the M&P and shoot it until I really learned what I want then go from there.
gleninjersey 2,139 Posted May 26, 2015 Agree with others. Shoot what you have. Figure out exactly what you don't like and then start looking for what you would like instead. Read, research, handle some other people's rifle at the range. Ask them what they like and don't like about theirs. Build a new one to your liking over time. Sell the M&P when your new one is done. You won't get back what you purchased it for but you'll become familiar with the basics of the platform and gained knowledge about what works and doesn't work for you. You could have made the same mistake with a much more expensive rifle. I'm sure many have.
fslater 62 Posted August 22, 2015 I got an M&P 15 ORC and theres things about it I wanted different. I don't consider it a build or rebuild by any means, just getting it how I want it one piece at a time. Hand guard, pistol grip, trigger. It was OR when I bought it so right off the bat I put sights on that I wanted. Out side the few things that I mentioned I really liked it out of the box.
