Fluxing molten lead.

Recommended Posts

I finally got around to melting some WW's today. Threw a bunch in, set the thermometer to 750 degrees, and started pulling clips when I got a nice pool of lead. However, any time I threw little chunks of candle wax in to flux it just started a rather violent fire. Why? Too hot?

Also, what should I use to scoop the dross? I was using a slotted ladle thing I found with my reloading equipment. The wooden handle prevents it from burning me.

There was a lot of crap in the furnace to begin with since it is quite old. I will probably flux the crap out of it next go around.
