White Lithium Grease vs. CLP?

Recommended Posts

I was scrolling through some AK cleaning/maintenance videos today and I saw a few guys recommending the use of white lithium grease over CLP, Millitec, Remoil, etc. for lubing the bolt and bolt carrier.

Has anyone here doing this? If so, do you see any better performance over the oil based products? What about rust prevention over the oil?

I know the adage of if it rotates, oil it. If it slides, grease it. The bolt / bolt carrier do both, so I'm wondering which is better?

If your using the white lithium grease, how much should you apply? Some of these guys put a seemingly excessive amount of grease on while others put just a thin film (which is what I've always thought was the proper way to do it.

Any tips or advice is appreciated.

That video is pretty amazing. I'm obviously overthinking / over complicating this.

It's an amazing rifle, that's why I have so much love for Kalashnikov designed rifles. He was a genius among the ranks of Einstein, Michaelangelo, Edison, Copernicus, Tesla, ect...

I don't know if I'd go that far. The others you've mentioned invented at least several things and Kalashnikov one.

History is getting updated. It seems like Kalashnikov borrowed ideas of some German engineers. It explains why he was one shot genius and some other questions.

I tried white lithium grease on my AR bolt once. Functioned fine but I'll never do that again. Messy to apply, sticky, attracts everything, dries up, then annoying to clean off.

IMO, not worth it.

That's sort of what I thought - I'm sticking with a CLP and Tetra grease combo for now
