If anyone else is having ejection problems w/ Savage Axis....

Recommended Posts

I had purchased a used Savage Axis in .223 recently, and it was having ejection problems, the ejector would drop the brass back into the magwell, gumming everything up. I used my google-foo and came across this as a solution: http://www.savageshooters.com/showthread.php?13310-AXIS-Ejection-Problems

I purchased the larger steel ball bearing they recommend you replace the factory one with, but they came in packs of 100. I used about 4 (1 in the gun, 3 went rocketing across the room to who knows where during the install process. lol). If anyone else is having issues w/ their Axis and want to give this fix a try, shoot me a PM, I'll give you my address, send me a self-addressed stamped envelope, and I'll send you a couple. Happy shooting.

Glad you found the solution.  I have a bud that is a virtual Savage expert (tricking them out).

That's what he does.  If you have any further problems let me know.  BTW he has about 95 of those balls laying around but he has 5 rifles...LOL

Does this affect Savage Axis XPs?  I would assume it's the same.   I haven't experienced any extraction issues with mine, but then again I haven't shot it a lot yet...  .308 is more expensive than .223 :p

Shame on you Nick!!!

If you exhibit any problems give me a shout.

You know I have loads of balls!

Your damn right it is. lol. I have an American in .308 and shoot it somewhat sparingly as ammo is almost a dollar a round. Plus my girl was getting into the whole long range shooting game and the only thing she didn't like about my American is the kick. Figure I'd kill 2 birds w/ 1 stone, get a new fun long range gun that isn't $1 per round, and now my girl can enjoy reaching out and touching some steel with me.

Heh.  I pretty much just sighted it in... Changed the trigger spring to lighten the pull and haven't had a chance to shoot it since...  Maybe this coming weekend...
