ChrisS 31 Posted June 30, 2015 My buddy just got ah HK VP9 that we're taking to the range this week. I wanted to pick up some ammo but have never purchased 9mm before. Any recommendations? It'd have to be from a brick & mortar location. I called the local Dicks out of curiosity and they said they carried Winchester and Remington. Any help would be appreciated. bhunted 887 Posted June 30, 2015 Not to worry. Eats anything. No steal, that's just my opinion. 115gr fmj great for plinking or whatever. Hollow points or critical defense rounds for home protection... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
PD2K 115 Posted June 30, 2015 If you're buying from a retail location, I would buy the cheapest brass ammo available. All pretty much the same for punching paper IMHO.
ChrisS 31 Posted June 30, 2015 Thanks, guys. That makes things easy.
ECsandstar 28 Posted July 1, 2015 Dicks is terrible. I wont pay $15 for a box of 9mm.

bhunted 887 Posted July 1, 2015 Tell him to go online to LAX Ammo or FreedomMunitions and buy bulk. Plenty of savings and all remanufactured reloads. Can't beat it.... Like gold nuggets at great prices. Photo of Lax Ammo. Comes in plastic ammo can. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
DSD1026 48 Posted July 1, 2015 you can easily find decent plinking 9mm ammo online for $12/box or less. as bh said, LAX or Freedom Munitions are the cheapest around and I personally have never had a problem with Freedom (i have shot a bit of it through my VP9). Agree about no steel ammo though. Many indoor ranges wont even allow it. If you're going to go to Dicks, Remington is typically cheaper than Winchester, but call the range you're going to go to (assuming its an indoor range) and ask them what kind of ammo they have and their prices to use in the interim to tide you over. RootSki 5 Posted July 1, 2015 I have been using Perfecta ammo that was on sale at Walmart in PA a few months ago. It shoots great, no failures in my Ruger.
PD2K 115 Posted July 1, 2015 I also highly Freedom Munitions' remans - that's what I buy nowadays for range ammo. I never ordered from LAX, but always wanted to and like the ammo can However the OP only wanted a retail location, so that's probably only Dicks or Ramsey in NJ. ChrisS 31 Posted July 1, 2015 Thanks for all the insight guys. I called around to A few places and Dicks turned out to be the cheapest. They are running a 'buy one, get one 50% off' on Winchester USA Target ammo. Walked out with 100 rounds each of 9mm and .40 for $60, plus it saved me a drive as I live a mile and a half from there.
