robot_hell 72 Posted July 24, 2015 Many of you may have read this, but if not, there is some excellent information here by a gentleman who lived through the collapse in Buneos Aries. http://www.themodernsurvivalist.com/archives/987 Good read, thank you. TheWind 17 Posted July 30, 2015 They have done a great job destroying it down here. I guess the only salvation will be the new gay AC, I am ok, we never go there, nothing to see for us.
Shawnmoore81 623 Posted July 30, 2015 Yeah what's with AC being gay now? The titty bar across the street from my buddy's house is now a gay bar. But it looks like a titty bar still. That's a pretty mean trick. I walked in the place and was trying to figure out where the girls were. Needless to say I only had 1 beer and was off to the next bar
Kevin125 4,772 Posted July 30, 2015 I think towns that are blighted, a mess, etc.. seem like a good investment to some. Asbury Park was another example where the place was a disaster on a bunch of levels, but at some point a gay community sprouted up. As far as who moves in, I'd think that somewhere, there's a discussion about how some community might be a good place to start to rebuild... and if they get enough interest, it happens. And I think in the gay community........ and Shawn can comment on this more since he frequents gay bars...... ;-) ....there's a positive aspect to being among "like-minded" people. Less harassment. Although that's hopefully less of an issue these days. Have to say it was a good thing for Asbury. The place isn't exactly a paradise, but it's a helluvalot better than it was in the 80's. Pretty decent restaurants. And Shawn, I hear the bars are nice as well.
Shawnmoore81 623 Posted July 30, 2015 I've been to asbury once. Seemed like Camden at the beach once you left a block off the board walk. I went to a wedding at some supper club. Then hit the stone pony and wonder bar.
Kevin125 4,772 Posted July 31, 2015 Its still got a ton of issues, but the center of town is decent and built up quite a bit from what it used to be. Not quite New Hope, PA......But leaning in that direction. Go a few blocks in just about any direction and the scene degrades. And the beach area is questionable. A work in progress, but better than the total shithole it used to be. And on the subject of when the SHTF..... parts of Asbury (and Camden) will probably be at least similar to what a SHTF situation will look like. Just not so much the "gay" section of Asbury. blur1221 0 Posted February 16, 2016 i personally would bank on a illness being our most probable shift and that trucking poster above would happen exactly as stated because as soon as a trucker or conductor or boat captain is risking being infected, infecting their family through them etc, those shipments will stop really quick, not to mention the minimum wage employees at the grocery store/walmart etc won't be risking their skins coming into contact with the hoards of people trying to buy food. Illness will tank everything quicker than you with think, with everyone hunkering down and holding a gun on their neighbor demanding they stay 15 ft away, till their food runs out and everyone is forced to go out = contact with others = spike in infected. every outing for gas or food or meds, your risking you life and anyone who's living with you just by going out amongst others or touching something someone infected touched. Other than myself i know of 1-2 people that have respirators & n95 masks stocked up for this, its something often overlooked in prepping and None of the average public keep them in their houses. and shit that won't 100% prevent infection anyways, many illnesses can be contracted by skin absorption or contact with your eyes.
