Small primer 45acp brass

When I first started reloading 45 a couple years ago, Blazer was about the only SPP brass I encountered. While loading the casing tubes this morning, I was coming across a lot of Federal and Fiocchi brass with small primer pockets. Don't know when they started switching but for anyone loading 45, it's something to be aware of so you don't pop a primer on the press.

It used to be that only .45 ACP "green" ammunition was loaded with SPP - not sure if that is still the case.

Not sure what "green" ammo is but I haven't noticed any difference the few times I've actually bought ammo and gotten small primers. I think it may be a cost saving effort on the part of the manufacturers.

Green ammo is ammo that is environmentally friendly. TMJ (Total Metal Jacket) bullets and primers that contain no lead, so there is no vaporized lead in the air. The lead free primers were originally only made in the small primer size.

PS: A lot of competition shooters that use .45 ACP guns, save the SPP cases and load them as a batch for "lost brass" matches.

Spp 45 is not just "green" or "NT" anymore. The federal champion has spp while the federal american eagle is lpp. I read somewhere there is no noticable difference in performance, just a royal pain for reloading.
