Any Shongum members on here?

Recommended Posts

I put myself on the waiting list for a membership over a year ago.  I just checked and I imagine my turn will be up soon.  However, I've never been to the range (I signed up on a whim).  I'm reading up about the place on their website and I'm not sure if it will be financially worth it for me to join.  I'm not a member of any other range and I currently get out to the local public indoor range about 4 times a year.  I'm not a huge fan of shooting indoors (especially rifles) but right now I'm not sure if the finances make sense for me to pay for a membership at Shongum.  Can any members chime in with their thoughts about the place?  Is there anything particularly awesome that I'm missing out on?

100 yard 20 port covered outdoor range, 25 yard outdoor multi-use pistol pit, 4 trap ranges (two under the lights), 50 foot indoor range with clubhouse and kitchen. Works for me. nothing else really around 'club' wise.  10 hours on the indoor range pays for itself.  Monthly matches for USPSA, SASS, Blackpowder, High power, weekly trap and pistol leagues. For me worth the dues, just 14 mile, 20 minutes away.

I find it very nice that during the week the place is typically empty.  I can go out to the outdoor pistol pit and set up a bunch of targets and never see another person.  The indoor range was just recently redone and is fairly nice.  Whether it is worth it for you is hard to say.  Why do you only go to the range 4 times a year?  Do you want to shoot more?  Only you can answer these questions and decide what is right for you.

I would like to shoot more.  Having a membership would entice me as "I already paid for it."

I've been a member for 20 years. I really like it there. It's relaxed. I try to go during the week since there's events going on during the weekends.

The outdoor range is 100 yards and covered during the warm months. Indoors is nice as well with 50 foot range. I qualified for my M1 Grarand there years ago.

Many events as described previously.

Join. You won't regret it!
