ECsandstar 28 Posted August 9, 2015 Just curious if when traveling out of state, do any of you ever bring some protection with you? Not necessarily talking about open or concealed carrying as neither would likely happen unless we go hiking into bear country. The wife and I will be heading out of state and staying in a cabin for 10 days, which does have some road access. I'm very used to having something on me when at home, at night, etc...I'm somewhat weary about traveling with it, but it will be secured and locked, an away from ammo. Any input? fishnut 2,358 Posted August 9, 2015 I try to only travel to states my Utah permit is good in so I usually bring at least one hand gun and one long gun. However if I have to travel to a place that is not gun friendly like when I go to upstate NY in the fall. I just carry my pepper spray.
glockamole 0 Posted August 9, 2015 I always carry when I can using my Utah permit. Just make sure you can legally have the gun in the state you're going to. Lock it up like normal and drive straight out of the state. Same when coming back lock everything up before nj and go right home. HBecwithFn7 296 Posted August 10, 2015 I don't have a problem bringing it anywhere where I have reciprocity with Fl. Now, I have it with SC, which protects me all the way up to VA. I'd have to pack thing up FOPA style to get through MD, but once in PA I can return. Now that I'm a FL resident, my FL permit is good in PA as well as SC. However, none of my "inventory" will ever see NJ again... or anywhere beyond there!

CMJeepster 2,766 Posted August 11, 2015 I always have a tool kit in my vehicles which includes an "Ultimate Wrecking Bar" and a hefty hammer. Additionally, I am always prepared for a softball game with and aluminum bat. Of course pepper spray is mounted in close reach of the steering wheel. Alex V 99 Posted August 11, 2015 im going to Myrtle Beach, SC and bringing my lil friend. Just got back this past weekend, but SC does not recognize my Florida non resident permit. They don't seem to recognize Utah non-resident either. Oh well.

Barms 98 Posted August 13, 2015 If you are traveling and have children... How are you locking it away? Is it that you are going to places where it will always be on your person? How about vacationing where you cannot carry? What if you rented a house at the shore for a week? How would you stow it away from the kids? Honestly if I was a perp I think robbing a designated beach rental would be stealing candy from a baby.
