Scorpio64 5,120 Posted August 12, 2015 Anyone here have a Stevens 555? I looked at one last week. It felt light and good on my shoulder but it felt weird to me. I guess the lightness is a plus for skeet and trap, probably upland game hunting too. But all my shotguns have been heavy(ish), yanno, built tough with plenty of American steel and feels like a real gun. The 555 felt like a toy. Are all trap/skeet guns that light? Anyway, if you have one, or shot one, let me know how you liked it.
Old School 611 Posted August 12, 2015 As I suspected the 555 is a Turkish import. www.shootingtimes.com/shotguns/stevens-model-555-shotgun-review/ Light because has an aluminum receiver with steel breach inserts. None of these things make it a bad shotgun.
Parker 213 Posted August 12, 2015 "Light" guns do have the edge in the field, at least in the uplands. Target guns are typically heavier for durability, enhanced follow-through, less recoil. Field & Stream liked the Stevens over a host of others in their field review. http://www.fieldandstream.com/articles/hunting/2015/02/shotguns-four-overunders-for-under-1000
brucin 918 Posted August 13, 2015 I have one in 20 gauge and am very happy with it. I use it for trap and skeet. It leaves you at a disadvantage due to the 26" barrels but I figure with practice I will get better. I've put over a thousand rounds through it so far and no problems. For the price I don't think you can go wrong.
