Cabela's has this bad boy on sale for $199.  28" barrel 12 guage pump, looks like a pretty straight forward boomstick with good reviews.  It's black synthetic materials so it will be easy to put a nice camo paintjob on.

Whaddya think?  Good buy?

I would wait just a tad longer. The fall sales on shotguns will begin around Labor Day.  You should be able to get a better selection then. Gun sales are down at the moment so look for some good deals as retailers look to boost sales.  Cabelas pricing has been high as of late.  Hang in there better deals are on the way.

Eh, I'm not looking for a deal so much as I'm looking for <$200.  $100 off a $1900 gun is not exactly a "deal" in my book :p  I'm going to hunt whatever's edible and legal to shoot at.

It's not a bad buy. On sale they might get a bit lower. Seems like it comes with a screw-in modified choke. It takes Winchokes so you can get anything from cylinder down to really tight turkey chokes. As far as quality goes, the one I looked at seemed as good or better than an 870 I had once. Your call.

To answer your question, you can hunt anything from deer to doves with the right choke and the right load.

I was browsing around Dick's a few hours ago and they had a Rem. 870 on sale for $274.99...  Ahh, decisions...  I like the $199 pricetag (and no tax in dela-tucky :D) but I've heard so many good things about 870's...  I mean this one is basically a chinese knockoff of the 870.  From what I'm told basically any thing that will fit an 870 will fit the H&R minus barrels.

Dick's had a Remmington 870 on sale for $299 + $25 mail-in rebate.  I ended up haggling a little and got the gun for $274.99 and STILL got the mail-in rebate, so I got an 870 express for $250.  All together with 4 boxes of Federal target load I paid $305.  I'm happy :D  Thanks for all the input guys!

The Remington 870 Express isn't a shotgun I would recommend any more, and I used to be a big Remington fan. They are really rough around the edges and poorly finished. Guns with rough edges, burrs, poor bluing like this would never have left the factory 15 years ago. In my opinion, Mossberg 500 is the better value.

Yeah - I'm not a big fan of Remington's QC as of late.  I prefer Mossberg anyway :)
