Barms 98 Posted August 16, 2015 Rented the VP9 yesterday. And from all the gushing reviews I was expecting pure butter in my hands. I dunno, was okay. I mean not awful. I don't shoot a lot of guns. I dry fired a PPQ i owned for a couple months but sold it unfired. I recall te PPQ trigger being better Am I crazy for thinking my M&P with Apex just blows the VP9 away? Is it just that a different gun is phantom to me? Aside from the weight of the pull the slightly hire bore axis is noticeable on the VP9. I had a rookie shooter with me (so unbiased) and he goes "wow that one is more jumpy". I know it was the bore axis he was talking about. After my disappointment with that (look it's a great gun I'm just being way too critical in all fairness) I'm just wondering do I ever bother buying another 9 if they will all fail vs the M&P with Apex. So any of you Apex lovers please chime in.
45Doll 5,842 Posted August 16, 2015 Just a question: Apex what? Which components?
DSD1026 48 Posted August 16, 2015 Apples & oranges to be honest.. Out of box VP9 rental v. customized M&P9.. Probably safe to say out of the box, VP9 has a better trigger than M&P9.. I have shot a couple M&P's (with and without the apex kit). Neither one of them were all that interesting to me. Wasnt a huge fan of the ergos and felt incredibly top heavy. Cant say i've noticed the snappiness too much compared to other polymers (compared to a CZ or Beretta 92, sure, a bit snappier). Maybe its because mine has a light on it.. heh.. im guessing that HK will eventually have some kind of trigger modification available for the VP9, which will make it better than the M&P w/Apex, but thats a conversation for another day.. Shocker 150 Posted August 17, 2015 I wasn't too familiar with the VP9 mechanism but I found this interesting read https://lanzerbot.wordpress.com/2015/02/08/case-study-ppq-vs-vp9-trigger/ best I can tell the HK/S&W mechanisms with the rotating sear are somewhat similar, as opposed to the sliding system Glock uses The Apex kit is made to much tighter tolerances than factory so it has an advantage no matter what. It's not a fair comparison but that being said I love my M&P. (I have the DCAEK and it was a 99% solution...after mirror polishing the back ramp of the striker block leg of the trigger bar it's reeeeaaaaly nice...) Vlad G 345 Posted August 17, 2015 The M&P factory trigger is crummy, but the APEX solutions (and there are different options) all put the gun a class that I have yet to see matched by any factory striker fired gun.
Barms 98 Posted August 17, 2015 Alrighty so I'm not crazy. It's just the Apex is unfair comparison. It's all I've known for two years so I'm jaded. I will just go 1911 on the next one and never look back. !!
A-Tech 8 Posted August 17, 2015 If all you've known is the Apex trigger, than going 1911 might be the only way you see a comparable/better trigger. Apex does amazing things to a bad trigger system that puts the M&P head and feet above anything else.
